First off he was born on 10/25 , so Christmas was 2 months later which is when you'd want to adopt out pups. Secondly, he always sought out pine trees under which to do his business (seriously!) so perhaps it harkened back to his delivery under a Christmas tree. When we adopted Mulligan in 2004, we were flabbergasted to learn his birthday was also 10/25 . While he didn't seek out pine trees, we loved telling this story to unsuspecting strangers. The other day, I got a Google alert about "Old English Sheepdog" and there was this dog listed for adoption... and his birthday was 10/25. I couldn't believe it. But alas he was in Nashville, TN and we live near Boston. We joked "if only we knew someone in Nashville" and "well, if it was a couple of months later we would (because my niece is moving there SOON!)" and we put it out of our minds. A couple of days later, I was chatting with my brother Gary (who lives near me in Massachusetts) and mentioned the story. To my astonishment he said: "I'm going to be in Nashville on Sunday with my van delivering stuff for Helen's [his daughter's] move." While that didn't quite work out due to logistics and the puppy was actually 100 miles away from Nashville, it got us talking about it again. Joan happened to be in Kansas City for work, and ... let's do it , if the dog is still available. I drove 700 miles to Lynchburg, VA and Joan abandoned her airplane ticket and rented a car one way, drove 500 miles to adopt the dog in Tennessee, drove another 700 miles to Lynchburg. We stayed one day to get to know him and rest up then drove the 700 miles back home over 2 days. Now we're home! Long story somewhat shorter: Meet Mr. Dee O. Gee. We have since renamed Mr. Dee O. Gee to Lord Tennyson. It's an English name, and it also pays homage to his start as a Tennessean. We haven't yet files the formal papers with the AKC, but it perhaps might be something like: "Alfred Lord Tennyson" We call him Tenny when he's good. Here we are outside the hotel in Lynchburg, VA Outside of the drive-thru-or-walkup-only Chick-Fil-A that was right in front of the same hotel. |

I love this story - and I love the pics!! He is just beautiful and sounds so heartily OES, but of course. We so rarely get to see you in pic here on the forum - that's really cool as well! Shellie |
Congratulations on a new FuzzBall! For those who don't know the breed, they can't understand our devotion to them. |
Congrats!!!! |
Oooooo, makes me want another one, if only hubby would let me I would have as many as I could afford to look after. xx |
Thank you! |

It looks good on you! Do you like it? Was it hard to get used to? Shellie |

I do like it, it has really grown on me.Shellie After the itching that happens somewhere around week 2, not a problem at all. Joan hates the "Karl Marx" look so I was trying to keep it narrow for a while, but as she got used to it I'm letting the sides grow more to help with the length. For a couple of years it really seemed like I wasn't adding any more length, but who knows. Originally I was going to shave it off after about a year (after playing Santa), but well.... it grew on me. Seriously. Also I still haven't played Santa --yet. I think it's hilarious to look like my dog, too. |
Oh well you gotta do the Santa thing! Tennyson would make a great elf! What fun that would be for sure Shellie |
Awesome! He looks great! |
people often say that folk do look like their dogs-seems to be true!!xx xx |

Congratulations! He looks like a pup. What is his story? Folks just not realizing that puppies behave like, well, puppies? I am so pleased that Tenny found a good forever home. |
His daddy had a few heart attacks and he'd been neglected for time while the parents were back and forth to the hospital and doctors and so forth. That's what we were told. |
How is he settling in? |
He's doing very well, just trying to get him to sleep for a straight leriod so I can shift my sleep to normal hours. Until then, we're out in the garage while Joan sleeps normal hours. |
That is very gentlemanly of you! I hope it doesn't take too long for him to sleep through the night. |
