While I don't think Ben has ever been directly sprayed, he likes to roll around in the grass where skunks have sprayed (WOW) I have had good luck throwing him in the shower stall and soaking him down with tomato juice ( I know it sounds weird, but that's what we used when I was a Girl Scout Leader) After letting this soak on him for about ten minutes, rinse well and follow with regular shampoo. I hope this works for you. |
I agree with Ben's Mom on the tomato juice.
But I would follow up with Gold Medal Deodorizing Shampoo works great. |
If you don't have tomato juice on hand, lemon juice works well too. |
1/4-!/2 cup baking soda to a pint bottle of hydrogen peroxide. Seriously, it works. Apply, rub in well, let it sit a few minutes, rinse out. Reapply. Then shampoo.
Tomato juice has never worked for me. Lemon juice has somewhat. Now I keep hydrogen peroxide and baking soda in with the dog supplies. Also Nature's Miracle for skunk removal. With six dogs, I can guarantee if one gets hit, 2 others will for sure. Usually about 10:30 pm when I want to go to bed, not wash dogs. |
SheepieBoss The last time it happened to me it was 2am...lol
Gotta love their timing Elissa |
Why don't you check with your vet or local pet stores.... at the vet where I work we have a product called Skunk Off. It's a liquid that you would use like shampoo. |
Believe it or not--Clark the Dog got sprayed late at night this spring and we had nothing in the house--home remedy or not--my son suggested fabreeze--absolutley worked like a charm--saved the night and clarks inside bed.
Not really recomended-but works like a charm in a jam. |
I'll remember that! Thanks! |
Our dogs got sprayed in the middle of the night once, the best thing to use is that skunk off from the vet!! Its actually the vinegar in the tomato juice that neutralizes the smell, don't bother with the messy tomato juice!! |
