a.....Approx. what year???? January 2002 b....WHY did you decide to join this lovely FORUM????? OES-L was the leading way sheepdog people kept in touch. It was an antiquated system and didn't allow people, especially newbies and people who did not want to register to be able to find information about their dogs. An entire generation of knowledge was being lost, locked behind OES-L's walls. To top it off, members of OES-L were (understandably) pretty snippy with new people who were asking the same questions that had been asked 100 times before. I had owned oes.org's "other half" of a few pictures and links since 1998. Previously I had offered the oes.org domain to NEOESR but they declined, saying it wasn't specific enough. I offered to work with the owner of OES-L but she refused, so I created oes.org's forum system on my own. c....Your Oes's AND other breeds name(s) at the time you first posted? Jake, from NEOESR 1992 ....Do you still have your original OES?? No, Jake passed in 2003. We adopted Mulligan from NEOESR in 2004 and he passed in 2015. e....If not, at what age did you say goodbye? Jake was 13 and 3 months and passed after a 5 year battle with arthritis and degerative myelopathy where he lost sensation in his hind quarters. Mulligan was 12 and 9 months and was quite healthy until suddenly stricken with an adrenal tumor (pheochromocytoma). We were looking forward to him being a sweet old man. f ...HOW DID THIS FORUM HELP YOU COPE WITH YOUR LOSS???????? Well, the forum was a great comfort to us when we lost Jake, by the time Mulligan passed my oes.org friends had mostly migrated away to the next stop on the technology train...to a place where nobody can find any information about their dogs, and people can't ask anonymous questions. ...and people get snippy when the same questions are repeated, and the next generation of information is being lost forever. |
I am sorry that I wasn't around when you lost Mulligan~~you were so kind and caring when Heart passed and I will always remember and hold dear the support that I received from all of our forum friends... I really hope that the 'oldsters' come back frequently to help all these newbies that have all the questions I had when I first joined. This forum was a godsend to me..... Thanks for playing my little 'Walk Down Memory Lane",,,,, |

I joined in June 2010 We had just ordered an OES from a reputable breeder in the U.K. Sadly the pup died at 7 weeks. I was scared as I was worried about taking the last one in a litter of 6 instead of the one who died. Everyone gave lots of sound advice and we got Elvis. He is our first and only sheepie and he will be 7 in June. Even though I don't post that often I am always on here looking for advice and searching various posts. Thank you everyone and |
I have no idea when I joined. 2003 or 2004. One day I decided that I wanted to know about Old English Sheepdogs, and the forum was the first site that popped up. I remember I was so nervous since I didn't own a sheepie (or any dog). Just my horse. I went to the first SheepieFest! and debcram and I instantly bonded. I sent Bob to the bridge December 30, 2013. I came here immediately. The outpouring of sympathy and love was amazing. Deb L. send me cookies with a note "Bob was a legend." I still have that card (and the cookies were delicious). Yeah, even though I post infrequently (I'm kind of done with internet communications), this place is still home. And yes, I am planning to buy Ariel (horse) and will post pics when that happens..... |
