I swear Brick's clock seems to be all over the place lately. I don't know when he likes to eat, when he needs to poop. He used to poop in the morning before breakfast like a champ. Seems the past few weeks he hasn't done that. Instead he wakes me up in the middle of the night to go out to poop. Never used to do that. Seems like his clock is off. Thoughts? |

Yes, it frequently does happen. Our Maggie had serious age-related Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome issues that caused her to get various things confused. She got to the point where she confused night and day and got stuck behind furniture that had not been rearranged in years and she seemed more withdrawn and slept considerably more. We put her on Anapryl and it did help, although it took several weeks to notice changes. Here's an article that explains it better. It's hard to accept our pets getting older but it's just part of the responsibility we gave to them. Hugs to you and Brick. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/pic/artic ... cleid=1346 |
I never noticed that with my 3 previous dogs- see what happens to Sprocket.xx (something to bear in mind).xx |

It's just that his eating, peeing, & pooping schedule is off. I wonder if it's all the snow we have. He's been having difficulty making his way thru the snow. It was too deep a week or so ago and now, even though a lot of it melted & compacted, is all pot hole-y, crusty, and icy. I can see he's having difficulty navigating thru it. I wonder if he's holding it in for as long as he can. He pees on the deck in a relatively clear area. |
Hopefully he is just behaving this way due to the weather. Unfortunately it will be awhile until that improves up in your neck of the woods. Brrrrrr! |
I remember Pearl had some internal clock issues as she aged....She did not eat as much as she used to when she was young and she would wake me in the middle of the night, every once in a while. There was no resetting her 'clock'...I just tried to be there when she needed me. Also, she would sit and stare at one particular wall quite often....I always wondered what she was looking at. Gentle hugs to sweet Bricks~~~~and kisses too!!!! (and much support for you Mark~~~~)) |
Poor Brick. Yes, age. Be patient. He had enough health issues, let's not worry about prostates, etc. Maybe the meds. But very likely the snow. Keep an area open for him. My old dogs wouldn't get ff the front porch when the snow was deep, created yellow ice conditions. |
