Barn Hunt

Anyone else do barn hunt with their OES? Fred and I started classes last August but I teach and now that the school year started, we don't have time.... she was really getting into it though. I know some of the older forum members compete in a variety of things with their dogs.. Fred has her rally advanced title, beginner novice obedience title and only needs one more event for her CPE agility level 1 title...

I haven't been on the forum in a while.. lots of new faces...do any of the newer members compete with their dogs?

I know Cindy Parks does BarnHunt with Teddy....She loves it and so does he~~~
What exactly is barn hunt? I am guessing that they hide something in the hay? It looks like fun.

I don't know what barn hunt is either. But it looks like there's tunnels in the hay. We made those as kids. It was the best fun!!! And we weren't allowed to do it as my Dad said it wrecked the haystack and squashed the bails...even better fun!!
maybe we can get Cindy to come back and explain?
Looks interesting!
Charm and I tried barn hunt once. It was an instinct testing type of trial. It is set up like a barn with hay bales or done in a barn. The judge hides a rat in a cylinder. They also place other non-live cylinders in the hay as well. The dog has to discern which cylinder has the actual rat. It is nose work. It is an AKC event and titles are earned by levels of difficulty and speed.

Charm wasn't too keen on it, even when she found the rat. I believe McCartney will love it. He always has his nose to the ground.
WOW....Brenda....Agility and Barn Hunting?????? I can't wait to hear about McCartney's adventures in these two performance rings~~~~~

Keep us updated!!!!!!

Is this a variation of Roll in the Hay :sidestep:
Hi all,

Yes, we started Barn Hunt training in January of this year. Teddy loves it! After just 7 weeks, we did our first trial and Teddy did great. We did a trial weekend in March and another in May. He earned his Novice title at the second trial and got his first leg in Open. He is the first OES to earn a Barn Hunt title! I haven't had a chance to enter other trials nearby because I had other things already planned on those weekends.

Here is the link to find out about Barn Hunt.
