I've also had adoption applications in with a few sheepdog rescues, but it seems there are many people ahead of us on the waiting list. |

Hi! I'm in Georgia as well. I got my first two sheepdogs from a website like what you have linked, and I won't do it again. I love them, but the list of how bad an experience this was is way too long to go into. And 8 years later we are still coping with health and behavioral issues. From my own experience, I've found that there aren't any local GA breeders with dogs I'd consider ever again. There are several very good breeders in Florida- although I don't know if they are having litters any time soon. For our third pup, we contact a reputable breeder and got put on a waiting list. We learned the hard way that faster doesn't always equal better. We just celebrated our one year anniversary of getting our third OES, and he could not be a more perfect dog. We got him from Wisconsin- we drove to get him and drove home with him, and it was definitely the right choice for us. Work with a good breeder, and while the wait might be longer, and you may have to get your new OES from farther away, you'll find it's so very worth it! |
this sheepdog mix just showed up in an Atlanta rescue: http://www.adoptapet.com/pet/16289657-a ... ewPetAlert |
Thank you for your reply! I saw the girl in rescue. Unfortunately, my senior female dog isn't good with other girls. So we are trying to find a male. I don't mind being on a waiting list or traveling, but I'm having trouble finding anyone who has an upcoming litter to even get on a list. I've only heard back from a couple of breeders (that I found on the sheepdog club referral page) and none of them are expecting litters. |
