Vestibular syndrome is a middle ear problem with no known cause or treatment. The symptoms resemble a stroke- loss of balance, falling over, leaning to one side when walking-but are short term (typically clearing up some in 72 hours). I am looking to see if anyone else has experienced this and possibly knows of any treatment to help ease the discomfort. |
Not sure if this is the same thing , but a few years back, my OES developed the same symptoms you described. We were out in the car for a ride and when he got out of the car he couldn't stand and was walking as if he were drunk. I thought he had taken a stroke. I went to an emergency vet who told me he had 'old dog disease'. They told me if he did not show improvement in 24 hrs I should put him to sleep. I left him there that night but called my regular vet in the morning and took him to her. She diagnosis it as vertigo. She told me to take him off the medication the emergency vet was giving him, said it would cause organ failure, and put him on small dosage of prednisone for 3 weeks. She kept him for one week to control his vomiting and to make sure he ate. She also recommended that I get him a harness to help him walk. After 3 weeks he was back to his normal self and never had another episode. |
