My guys have lots of wax, and for the first few years lots of infections. They swim, and I feel like every summer we were battling infections. We haven't had any trouble the last 2-3 years. I think we just got better at keeping the ears clean and dry. Make sure that after you clean with the cotton ball and fluid, that you take another dry, clean cotton ball and dry the ear canal well. And I make sure to dry their ears after every bath, swim, even if they play out in the rain and mud. I also try and keep the inside of the ear flaps hair free. One of our dogs is very good about letting me pluck her hairs. The other, not so much. Good luck! |
Sorry I'm late coming to this........there is much debate about ear hair/ear wax/ear infections/allergies. K-dog has better ears if she stays away from grains. I also feed an oil supplement, salmon oil. I've heard bad ear dogs rave about the supplement Dinovite. I try to keep her ears mostly hair free, she's never completely hairless as I remove only a few at a time. Then next day I clean the ears. I also shave below her ears and I also shave the inside ear flap. Kdog is about my 9th or 10th sheepdog so I've dealt with ear problems for a few years. So keep up with ear sanitation and seriously look into grain allergies or other food allergies........chicken is another suspect. |
Thank you. I was wondering about chicken too. |
