When I decided on getting an OES, I first checked out OESCA's website for approved breeders. The Old English Sheepdog of American has a higher standard for their breeders and I trust the organization. Read their "Code of Ethics" so you can could be a little more informed of any health problems in this breed. A good breeder will allow you to ask any question or voice any concern you may have. They will also want to know who you are to make sure that 'their' puppy will be in a happy, safe, forever home. IF I was looking at other breeders, I would make sure that the mom and dad were tested before deciding to breed for hip dysplasia, monorchidism, cryptorchidism, cerebellar ataxia, eye or hearing defects, thyroid disease, and dental irregularities, just to name a few. The old saying buyer beware is very crucial when you are deciding on a specific breed AND a specific breeder. Remember that you will have a life long relationship with your breeder and therefore you must trust them. I am sure there will be many responses to your post......good Luck!!!!! |
