we're over in the UK and have a 17 wk old male OES. When we purchased him from the breeder she made us aware that he had a hernia caused by the umbilical being pulled to hard by his mother. When we took him to the vet for his onnoculations she told us not to worry as it should heal itself. We noticed tonight that a lump is still there when he stretches in certain positions. Is it pretty common in the breed and straight forward to correct when he goes for the snip. Thanks all Pete, leeanne & Dan |

Hi and welcome! I'm told by my vet that umbilical hernias are relatively common and easily fixed. Bailey had his hernia repaired at the same time as his neuter surgery last month - it's a small incision and not a problem to get it all done at the same time. |
that's a relief - but i forgot to mention he's had one operation on it when he was a few weeks old but it seems to have returned - is this common?
He's due at the vets in a couple of weeks to be neutered so i'll arrnage to have it done at the same time. Ta |
Hernias are pretty common. When he gets nuetered, ask them to check the old operation site. See if there was a problem with how they did the repair or if this is a new hernia. If it is a new hernia he could have a weak abdominal wall which could strengthen in time or which may need some reinforcing with a mesh type substance.
Most pups get the regular repair and do fine. |
