I took her to my nieces about two hours away for the night. They had a metal one we used, but it was a little small. ok for one night. So I would like to have one to take with me for when we visit. It was too much for Tinsley for her first visit . new sounds,,,3 year old and 4 year old, other dogs, chickens, ducks, smells galore...but she was happy when she saw their kitties and they came up to her. Also considering buying a large metal one to keep down there for when we visit. Just not sure what to do at this point. Thanks for any advice. |

Check out AMAZON. I have seen the fabric types there that look quite good. Several years ago, I bought one from QVC and it was great! It had great ventilation and a zippered door, not to mention light weight and folded down to store in the box. Unfortunately, they don't have them anymore AND the last dog I fostered, tore the front open. I have also seen some fabric ones at PetSmart in the past. |
We have a Noz2Noz soft crate for Benson. She absolutely loves it, and it has been very easy to transport, set up and take down. I especially like that it has 2 doors (one on a small end and the other on a long side), plus the top unzips completely. It's her home away from home whenever we're in a hotel, as well as during competitions. She spent the better part of 4 days just hanging out in it at the APDT conference last October, and never made a peep. https://www.facebook.com/LifeWithBenson/photos/pb.569242953087068.-2207520000.1434641041./886443231367037/?type=3&theater Just be sure Tinsley has very good crate manners. If she's any kind of a digger, especially with kids, chickens, dogs, etc. stimulating her, she can rip through any fabric crate in her excitement. Good luck! |
I did see the Noz2Noz crates on amazon and was trying to compare them to the others...I kept going back to that one. Thanks Jonsey and Benson. So far she had pretty good crate manners and just laid down when I put her in the kennel this past weekend...The kids were making noises but told them to try not to excite her. And she was crated inside the house, not out. in case anyone was wondering. She is definitely an inside dog with play time inside and out for short periods when its hot....i walked her a good bit and thats when she saw the ducks and chickens. Curious but did not try to chase or herd or hurt them...thank goodness...i would of been so embarrassed........... |
So I'm having to jump in on this and just say I just collapsed Steel's huge metal one just because I am done with it and so is he. Sonny is the only one here who still requires a crate for any kind of purpose so his still remains. That thing was a pain in my butt. There wasn't much ease to it I must say. Maybe if I did it on a regular basis like you guys who take your babes with you frequently but man o man Steel's is huge and once I got it all down I found myself trying to figure out where I was going to store it because it really wasn't all that compact. Comparatively speaking yes but whew! Anyway, Steel is not a chewer or destructive in the crate so if at all possible I think I would opt for the cloth. My mind immediately went to cleaning purposes. Would you be able to throw parts in the washing machine? How great would that be? Less heavy and bulky. |
The only part we've every washed is the crate pad cover, if she stepped in with muddy feet. Otherwise, the crate stays pretty clean. If she spilled water, or it got wet from the rain, we've occasionally had to leave it open to air out for a few hours after we get home, but I've never tried to wash the crate material itself. I have no idea how easy it would be to dismantle. |
