Not a big pill taker, but I wanted a steady stream of whatever she was going to be taking in her before nighttime came so gave it to her in plenty of time and my sweet baby turned into a lunatic! She started jumping all over us and the other dogs with force. Not mean but she weighs 63lbs so she was backing us up a bit. She was jumping all over the counter tops which is kind of normal but she wasn't graceful about it. Usually she just peeks and hops down because she knows better. She was being a jerk about it and clearing the counters. She jumped OVER the wood part of my bed - I don't even know how she accomplished that - Bionic dog! She spent the rest of the night opening the kids doors and waking them up jumping all over them. This next move is going to sound insane but before I called the vet I gave her another one the next morning. I know but I wanted to make sure it wasn't a matter of getting used to the medicine. It was daytime now so her behavior would be much easier to tolerate if she was going to freak out. She had the same reaction. I called the vet and yes after much laughter she called in a different med. This couldn't be called in to my pharmacy had to be called in to a specialized pharmacy. Tranxene. This does not need to be in her system. Give an hour before horrendous event and good to go! I don't want to jinx myself but I think this one works too! We were going to bed the other night and Robert was letting them out and just as it was her turn BOOM someone let off a firecracker. She freaked out and ran in and didn't potty. I gave her a pill. Everyone went to bed and I waited up with her for an hour. I took her back out and she went potty. No more fireworks and yes it was quiet but normally she wouldn't have gone near that door for a week. The pill didn't seem to have any weird effects on her, she may have been a little dopey but it was past her bedtime so that is to be expected. I'm guessing just as with people every dog reacts differently to every med. but if nothing else maybe you can learn you don't need to give that 2nd dose to be sure! Haha! Go right on ahead and trust that if the 1st dose has turned your angel into a monster the 2nd dose is likely to do the same! In my head I am thinking it is the Australian Shepherd in her that makes her sensitive to everything but I could be wrong, it is just what I watch for and remind the vet of. Not sure in matters in this case but doesn't hurt to remind the vet EVER is how I always proceed. Thanks for listening! |

Skye isn't alone. Every blessed dog of mine has been fireworks frenzy.......except for one Pyr rescue who thought they were the most wonderful thing in the world to watch.........silently. She wasn't deaf.....but I wondered sometimes. I've tried everything.....confining to their indoor kennel.......but they'd turn it over in fear. Sitting quietly with them......they drooled and whimpered all over me. Using the pheromone for calming.....the plug in type, didn't work. Bach's Rescue Remedy, didn't work. If they were caught outside........they'd crawl under truck or car or bury themselves in shrubs and get stuck. We had Glacier break into the house to get away from the noise.......door never has worked well since. So I have no suggestions but offer sympathy. This current dog only velcros herself to me but no drooling or whimpering. Hard to move with a 90 lbs grey hairy bag against your legs. |
