Back in the saddle...

As everyone knows, Bob the Wonder Pony crossed the bridge in December 2013 (and there isn't a day when I don't miss him). He was retired about a year and a half before that, so I haven't ridden, seriously ridden, in probably 5 years. In April I decided to take lessons at a fancy dressage barn (it's a training/show/sales barn, but kinda laid back). So I guess I'm back in the saddle. I am not in the least thinking about owning again, but I would entertain the idea of shareboarding or part leasing.

The funny thing is Bob was 16.2, grey, very distinguished, and slightly mental. My lesson horse is Poky, a black and white large pony (maybe he's 14.2) with one eye and is totally unflappable. During one lesson there was a thunderstorm, a horse got loose and ran around outside the barn, and the neighbor was riding an ATV. Poky. did. not. care.

I like the barn. The owner/trainer is from Denmark. She has TWO English Mastiffs that scared the cr@p out of me the first time, but within a second they decided I was good people and now bring me their babies and toys, and lean on me, and drool on me. They are gentle giants. I was carrying a towel and stopped to talk to someone, and one of the dogs came up and took the towel. I guess he figured I was giving it to him! So I get my dogs and horses fix.

good for you!!! Doggie and horse fix all in one....cool..never seen a english mastif but know they are LARGE...glad they decided you were their friend, who brings them towels...lol..that was funny.
alot of mastiff owners carry and have drool towels everywhere, so they might be used to them.
did they wipe their own mouth?
Sounds like a great place. :D
I'm not lying when I say the mastiffs are the size of a Shetland pony. Their shoulders come up to my knees. As pups they gain about 5 pounds a week (just like me!) but they don't live long due to their size. And their bark would deter any intruder.
I am happy to hear you are back riding again. Losing Bob was quite a loss for all of us even though we only knew him through the stories you wrote about him, he will always be special to me. Those English Mastiffs are a just big lovers. My sister in law had two at one time, Georgie and Shelby. They were the most friendly and clownish dogs. They were a favorite back then. Sad, but as you said they don't have long lives and both died at an early age from cancer. When they both passed everyone who had ever had contact with them felt the loss. I do remember the drooling. lol It was good to always have a towel close by. So you now have two good thing to look forward to when you decide to ride. Happy trails to you!
