I would like to thank each and every one of you that has a therapy dog and takes the time to visit hospitals, nursing homes etc. Until you are a patient you have no idea how much that visit means to the person. Again, thank you! If you are thinking of pursuing a therapy dog certification, do it! Kathie |

What a very nice message! Virginia and I came back from our weekly therapy dog visit to our local nursing home today. We have had a bad run the last couple of months, losing some residents who were very dear to us. Found out tonight that another lady that we were close to has passed away and I was feeling quite down about the whole therapy dog thing, so your post was timed very well. Sometimes you wonder if you make a difference. I know that the people I have met have made a huge difference to me. I often wonder who gets the therapy, the residents or me! I am glad that you have recovered and are out of hospital. |
one of the highlights to my trip to the Mayo Clinic was my therapy visit with our own Chewie & got sheep. I think lots of the other people on my floor got a kick out of it too! |
Chewie visited??!!! Wow! (But then you did meet up with him and family before) |
we do visit with Dawn and her family & dogs when we go to MN- but getting a proper Chewie therapy visit post-surgery was really wonderful! AND this was our first visit to MN- I don't know if I'd met with Dawn up there before that. |
Being part of a therapy team for the past 20+ years, with 3 of my furkids has been a blessing!!!! I have witnessed many mini-miracles due to the power of the unconditional love and acceptance that comes from our dogs! They don't see what is on the outside~~~~~~ they FEEL what is on the inside!!!! And then they instinctively know how to soothe and comfort. The interaction between a therapy dog and a patient is an amazing thing to behold!! At times, I feel like I should quietly leave the room, the connection is so strong, even for 5 or 10 minutes. I am so sorry you were in the hospital, I hope you are feeling better. |

I am glad that you have recovered and are out of hospital. Mickey Finn's obedience teacher has a therapy dog, a Dalmatian. She was telling me she goes through the same thing you have been feeling when you lose people at the nursing home that you would see regularly. She was saying that she would have to take months off just not to get too depressed about it. So I guess what I'm saying is that what you are feeling is not that unusual. Just take some time off and go back when you're ready. |
