It has to do with the way the leg fits into the hip. If poor, then any ACL surgery will just tear out again. Especially in larger animals. You have to take into account the age and general health of the dog as well as your pocket book. Be upfront with the vets, "what are the chances he will tear it out again due to poor hip/leg alignment." I suspect you'll get "no guarantee" so go from there. |
I have no experience with either type of surgery, but I can recommend an excellent surgeon in Chicago. Dr. Paula West is with Veterinary Specialty Center at Illinois. She did surgery on my OES with OCD in his elbow back in 2001 (when she was with Arboretum in Downers Grove.) My vet at the time was my friend from elementary school, and she said Dr. West was the best, and where she would take her dog for ortho surgery. My other vets concurred, even though Dr. West was outside of their referral area. Everything went well with Quincy, and I would take a dog back to her in a second. Best of luck. Laurie and Oscar |
