I am in search of a lovable sheepdog puppy to add to my fur family <3. Whether it be from a rescue, breeder of from someone who needs a new home for there OES. Some Preferences I like are (doesn't really matter much, just something I adore. Health and temperament are the most important): Black Eye Patches, Black Ears! Around the Texas area and next states over. I wouldn't mind shipping if needed, however, I do have a price limit I need to stay under/near. Thanks in advance! |

Texas Rescue but they don't always have pups. Nothing in NM. AZ has a small rescue. Calif. doesn't rescue out of the state. Colorado has a rescue but rarely has dogs......almost never a pup. Going east......not as familiar with geography but know there are a couple of good rescues there. Midwest OES is another possibility. I'd can the request on appearance. That's a quick way to get knocked own on the adoption list. That indicates you are more in love with appearance over knowledge of the breed. The black and white quickly fades and blends together as the adult hair moves in. Puppies are not common in rescue. If you want a pup..........a healthy pup.........go with OESCA Breeder Referral listed on the main page of this forum. Be prepared to wait as litter are not common, be prepared to ship in, and be prepared to pay! Pups aren't cheap. Beware of the internet sellers!!!!! Puppy mills from poor breeding stock, no certified health checks (don't fall for "vet checked" or "we've never had problems.") Read up on what certified health tests are recommended: hips, hearing, eyes are the first three that come to mind. Imagine that cute puppy arrives deaf, goes blind at an early age or is crippled from poor hip development and in pain. The "repair bill" could easily top $7,000 for a double hip replacement. Dear friend has a dog who has torn an ACL. Repair is far too high for her income so the dog will spend the rest of her life unable to run free again. So do your homework on the breed, health issues, grooming requirements (they are major if you want long coat) and start a dialog with breeders. |
SheepieBoss is right....it is very rare that you will find a puppy from a rescue. There are some breeders that may at times have a pup (usually under the age of 1 to 1 1/2) that they are looking to place in good homes. These usually are the pups that they originally kept from a litter with intentions to show but for whatever reason did not work out. If you want more info on that, please pm me. And please, please, please be very careful where you get your pup from. SheepieBoss hit the nail on the head in regards to doing your homework prior to purchasing to avoid heartache and expense. Good luck in your search! |
Yes I've done plenty of research on them, as I do any animal, I also was previously employed as a dog grooming assistant so I do know the work that goes into long hair coats! Thanks for all the information, it's appreciated! |
