I have finally found a large school yard in the neighboring town that is completely fenced in! This morning I took Guc there and nervously closed the gate and let him go! He ran like the wind! Chasing all the birds and just being free! I was so happy as he has never been able to run free like that! My guy is deaf and cannot be off lead EVER! So this was just so great! I was standing there with tears in my eyes at 6:30AM like a lunatic clapping! Good grief! We have 40 acres of land but none is fenced in, we have been trying since May to put up a big fenced in area but have hit bedrock! Grant, my husband kept coming home every weekend with a bigger and bigger jackhammer to try and make post holes, no such luck! We are now waiting for call backs from seemingly very busy companies to come with a big truck to make the holes! I keep referring to it as our million dollar fence! Anyway, I am so happy I have finally found somewhere for Gucci George to run freely without a string attached! He looked like a little gazel, as he has a summer cut and those skinny little legs were just a flyin'! Thought I'd share! Colleen and Gucci George=>I'm the fastest dog in the EAST! |

That's wonderful!! I can just see him now. Terrific news. Good luck with the fence. |
Colleen that brought a huge smile to my face Were his ears flapping and the tounge haning out? I bet he loved it! Free Gucci!!! |
How great for Gucci!! |
Oh, that makes me so happy to hear. My Lucy had never been off a leash until I found the dog park by where we live now and, like Gucci, she took off like the wind the first time and it was so great too just watch her go. I know what you're feeling! |
Run, Gucci George, Run!!!!!!!!
(but come back to Mom when she calls you!! ) Glad he had fun, they love to run at top speed !! Please post a picture on your next visit to the school yard. |
Nothing better than when they run at top speed!! We're having fencing issues too. We've got about 10 trees that need to come down in our yard and don't really want to put a fence up before that gets done.

Thanks for all the replies! Yes...his tongue was hanging out and his ears flapping!
He did come back to me when I gave the come signal! I was very proud of him! Tomorrow I will remember to bring the good treats though! That way I'll reinforce the come command! It will make me feel better! I will try to take some pictures...but it might be really blurry! He's super fast! Colleen and Gucci George=>is it morning yet? I want to go running! |
Yeah G.G.!!!! Panda wants to see pics....she thinks she's faster...I told her that there MIGHT be someone faster!! |
There's absolutely nothing like it huh?
We live in a itty bitty townhouse and all our boys get for exercise is walks TIL we found the biggest fenced in field. We have to drive 30 minutes to get to it but the boys KNOW when we are going and get so excited! They are out the back door of the van on the run straight into the gate and they are OFF and don't stop until we decide to leave. It such a great feeling! Glad you could find a safe place for Gucci George to run. We HAVE to get together soon.....maybe when it's not so very hot and humid? |

Colleen and Gucci George=>is it morning yet? I want to go running! Gucci George is awesome, recall is one of the hardest lessons. Way to go Gucci George!!!! |
Picturing G.G. ( I like the idea of using the initials Darcy!!) running free reminds me of a "Dog Whisperer" I saw yesterday.
Cesar's Way : The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding and Correcting Common Dog Problems (Hardcover), by Cesar Millan, Melissa Jo Peltier People Training for Dogs, Cesar Milan's DVD I don't remember what breed he was, but he was a herder with WAY too much energy. They brought him to a special place where the dogs can learn to herd sheep (like something that was being talked about on another thread I think). It was so cool to all the sudden see the dog "get it". He was just so happy running around with those sheep! Sorry, I didn't mean to get off topic - just imagined G.G with the happy face!! Karen |
Well here are some pictures!
(Just click on the camera icon at the bottom of this post!) I hope I did that right?! Thanks for all the happy thoughts! Michele, yes we really have to get together soon! Lately we've only been going out very, very early in the AM in order to beat this heat! Our fence is still under construction! As soon as it's ready you will have to ALL come out for a visit! It's going to be a great size, so all the sheepies would have a BLAST! I was a little worried that Carl would be disappointed that we had to shave Gucci George. I was hoping he could grow some hair before meeting Virgil! Virgil wouldn't make fun of Naked George, would he? Might I also add that GG (I like the initial idea too, Darcy!) did NOT come when I signaled yesterday! He was like.... SEE YA! He did eventually come back...it is sooooooooooooo hard to not get mad at that point! But mommy told him he was a good dog and he got the better treat! I also, for the record, went out and bought even BETTER treats! Anything to reinforce this! OMG I just had an image of me standing in the school yard waving a raw New York Striploin over my head like a raving lunatic! Well, I guess whatever works! Anyway! I hope you are able to visit Gucci's Gallery to see him in action! You have to show Panda the picture Darcy! GG says to tell her it is a little blurry because he is so SUPER FAST! Hope you like the pics! Colleen and Gucci George=>when are we going runnin' mommy, when, when, when.... |
That is a big field for him to run! Sure looks like he's having a good time!
Must laugh at the image of you with the steak I think GG is training you! |
Way to Go! There's nothing like a sheepie running loose... Soon I'll have to buy 3rd party insurance for mine in case they hit a car and dent it |
HI,
Your story just about made me cry..with happiness of course! I understand so well how happy and heartwarming it is to see a sheepie running free for the first time. What a wonderful thing to experience and I'm so happy for both of you!!!! Marianne and the boys |
I love to see them really run too. We have a fair sized fenced in yard, but for a really good run we go to the park by the river. It's amazing how fast they can get going! Beautiful to see them run in full coat too, the hair just flows... |
OK Colleen, that brought tears to my eyes (but happy ones). I'm so happy for you and Gucci! BTW, what are the better treats called?
Beau's going to get his dog license today and I think I found a dog park near by. I can't wait to see him run free for the first time. |
Gucci George is such a handsome boy! And he does look very fast. I can vouch for the fact that Panda is super quick and very agile - she leaves clutzy ol' Bailey in the dust! But GG may give her a run for her money... |
The best treats I've found are Rollover, Gooch likes beef best! I'm sure Beau will love them!
Gucci told me to tell Panda to name the time and the place, he's ready for the race! Colleen and The Gooch=>I love running outside! I also like to make a "track" in the basement and GIVER! |
aw i loved reading this post. im so glad you found a place for your boy to run free. i was talking about this with a lady that runs a dog rescue in chicago the other day. there is absolutely nothing as amazing as watching dogs run..... when they take off and start running like that you know it is out of sheer joy, and to watch it is amazing!! |
That's so awesome! |
