There isn't anything that mentions health testing on their web site. Hip and elbow OFA certification would be the minimum you should accept on a puppy. The love they mention is great but it doesn't necessarily make for healthy puppies. |
I agree with Nita, no mention of health tests, beyond vet examined and other baloney. With dysplasia, deafness, eye problems in the breed, you want to start out with a sound genetically sound pup......or actually the best possible chance. Even the best breeding can have problems. One thing that doesn't show up is coat type. Having had one rescue girl, dear MO, virtually no undercoat and a cotton coat.......both not OES......and a small stature to boot, she was an obvious product of a poor breeding. |
Nita + Maggie -- thank you so much for your feedback. I love the breed, but admittedly I am just starting to learn what I should look for in a puppy. I really appreciate your guidance. Matt |
You can find a lot of good advice on the Old English Sheepdog Club of America web site: http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... owning.php |
Take your time and do read the OES Club site. Go thru breeder referral, talk to breeders. Time spent before will be well worth it. |
