Tinsley in heat
 Since I am not sure when the heat cycle started, how do I count the days until it should be over? I have no intentions of breeding her. Just curious is all.  |

| Proestrus the when the girl is "coming into heat". This lasts 2 days to about 2 weeks with 9 day average. The female may drop brownish or bloody fluid, the vulva begins to swell. Some bitches get a bit nervous or change in some way. Males are interested but she isn't and will snap. Estrus is the heat cycle where she can breed and may last from 3-21 days with average 7 days. The discharge is clear or straw colored however in some it may remain bloody. She is ready and will present herself. Obviously this is the most dangerous time, one where she must be under your full control or she's gone......"downtown looking for guys." Metestrus or diestrus is the 2 month period after estrus. The discharge changes to white for about a week an the vulva will begin to return to normal size. At the end of diestrus, she would whelp is bred. |
