Hi Kerrie,
We have had that same problem with our OES, Jack, he is 6 months old now. I know you had said the car ride was out of the question, but it also sounded like he was just loose in the jeep. If that is the case, have you thought of putting him in a pet crate to ride so that he confined. We have also had neighbors and grandparents come and take care of Jack before and since he was familiar with them, he didn't seem to have as much of a problem with us not being there, but he sure was excited to see us when we came home! We missed him as much as he missed us. I hope everything works out with Vivi and that you have a safe trip. I am sorry I am not sure how to post a picture. |
Hi Stormie, I have not tried putting the crate in the jeep, good idea. I'll give it a try around town and see how she does. I'm also hitting my mom up to possibly stay here with her, so we will see how it goes! Thanks! |
Because I have 2 sheepies (plus one visiting sheepie)and 4 rescued parrots, I usually get a house-sitter to come and stay here, rather than board all of the critters. It works out very well and isn't any more expensive than boarding.
I have a Jeep also. I know I should be keeping the dogs crated in the car for safety's sake, but I attach a short leash to each of two rings in the cargo area (bolted into the floor). I essentially leash each of the dogs to the rings, so they can stand and move a little but can't jump into the back seat or out of the car. The 3rd sheepie rides in the back seat and he is seatbelted in. When I just had the one sheepie, he was trained to stay back in the cargo area and he never left there. Years ago, I saw a woman in a VW beetle with 2 sheepies in the back seat and one in the front seat. That's a lot of dog. Good luck on your trip |
I've also seen doggie seatbealts available. Its a harness that you put your fluffy sheepie in and it hooks onto the seatbelt and he can sit like a normal passenger! |
We have precisely that! - It straps round Woof's chest, belly and neck (rather like a barrel strap) and onto the existing seatbelt - Woof can turnaround, sit up or lie down, but is otherwise very safe. |
Hi all...
But first of all don`t feed your OES before you travel....I recently made a 4 hr. trip to a town nearby and forgot not to feed Pisco poor thing he vomited all over.... he doesn`t ride with any strapping since he just lies down in the back seat and naps until we arrive....he sometimes puts his head on my shoulder and licks my ear ..what I don`t forget to give him is water since he gets very thirsty on car trips. I also had to leave him for 10 days on September and I had a friend come dog sit, since it was not an option to take Pisco with me since I was travelling to Bolivia. V. |
