As you can see from the date I joined, I have been stalking and reading and gathering all sorts of helpful information and tips since December of 2011. I feel like I almost know most of you as I have been following your triumphs, disappointments and heartbreaks over the last 3 years. I found this website as I was researching breeders back then and just enjoyed reading all the links and tips. My love affair for the Old English Sheepdog started in college many, many moons ago. Once I was out on my own I purchased my first oes from Puppy Palace, a dog store. Not smart, I know, but way back then I was young and not aware of all the horrors associated with these shops. She was a great girl, my constant companion and I was blessed she had no health problems. In between that time and until my retirement I was the very proud owner and lover of Golden Retrievers. It didn't start off as choice but as fate. My very first work dog (narcotic detector) was a Golden and throughout my career was the dog of my choice either as a handler, Instructor or Administrator, not only for work but for Project Outreach for kids and visits to nursing homes. I left the German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois to the testosterone infested male handlers (sorry guys, but in law enforcement it is true!). It was tough on them when the 2 prissy girls (me and K9 Kimberbly) led in seizures 3 years in a row until I had to retire her because of hips. Now that I am retired I have returned to my first love, the oes. I currently have two. Beau (just 3) was my retirement present to myself. He has finished his AKC Championship, CGC and passed the TDI test and is currently my therapy dog. He is the absolute sweetest! My second in a "what was I thinking" moment is Gunner. He just turned 6 months and is a pistol, a clown and a lover boy. They are hilarious together and I can never get out of a store when I have the 2 of them with me. I now know that if I am in a rush or am not in the mood to socialize with tons of people... then I better leave them home! I truly appreciate the wonderful and dedicated breeder for having such beautiful pups with such outstanding temperaments and conformation. I also have a 14 year old couch potato Golden Retriever and a 4 year old Labrador Retriever that my younger son participates in Dock Dog events. Whenever I can figure out how to post a photo I promise I will. I tried but the note says I must downsize the pixels for the avatar but the Microsoft photo program on my computer would not reduce as low as 150x150. Any helpful hints on posting pics would be greatly appreciated as I am a total box of rocks when it comes to computers....just make out you are trying to explain it to a three year old and I just might get it! I look forward to becoming an active member on the board and hope to travel to some of your get togethers to meet you all in person. Barb |

Welcome.I am sure someone can help you with the pics. don't feel bad, I am not a computer baby either. I was so proud of myself when I finally did post my first pic. Hope to see all of your babies soon. I love this site too and have learned so much and the people are so wonderful and friendly and very willing to help with any questions you may have. |
Hi Barb, Welcome! There's a big sheepdog get together this coming Memorial Day. It's called Sheepdog Shindig; held in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Are you on Facebook? Because the Shindig has it's own FB page. |
Welcome Barb! Quite a dog life! I have to agree with your current K9 household......sounds like fun! |
Hi Mark, I am not on Facebook. I guess I am a little old fashion in that respect. When you have time, could you tell me the logistics of travelling across the border with the dogs? Health certificates, shot records? Thanks! |
When we went in 2013, I brought my passport (which they looked at; makes it a lot easier to cross) and all of Brick's records, including a recent vaccination record and rabies certificate. The border guard never asked to see those docs, but I still wouldn't have traveled without them. Just don't try to bring an Am Staff across the border. Pit bulls and other similar breeds are banned in Ontario. They will confiscate those dogs. |
Hi Barb! Nice to meet you I just found out the pictures can be easier/harder to post depending on the type of computer you are using. Mine broke - had to get a new one, different kind and there was a bit of a learning curve and it added 2 or 3 more steps to get a pic on here. The directions given are still the same though if you just keep playing around with it you may accidentally figure it out! I hope you do, just dying to see your babies! |
Hi Barb, and welcome!! It was so nice to read your post. Your pack sounds like an active, very fun household I think you might just search "Sheepie Shindig", and threads about the particulars should appear. 2012 was the first shindig so there must be detailed threads. None of us had traveled outside US with our dogs. Current vacs, and a special physical exam vet form and that was it. Like Mark said, never looked at them. It's a lovely event, filled with sheepie fun, frolic and mayhem. You might be a stranger for three minutes Love these people. Hope you will consider it, reservations are being taken now. |
[quote="auntybren"]Hi Barb, and welcome!! It was so nice to read your post. My boys Beau and Gunner are both Shaggeybark pups. Maybe they are related in some way!! |

Finally got pics posted |

It would be interesting to trace who is connected and how! As I learn more, I see how different breeders, going back in time, often have some shared ancestry. We might all be related somehow! |
It would be cool if there was something like ancestry.com for dogs. |
