I think there is something else going on with your puppy. It's a bit young to be losing large amounts of fur even if it is the start of the coat change. We have never had an itchy coat change, nor have I heard of it. If the dog is really matted it may be pulling hunks out by accident, but it doesn't sound like that is what you have. I'd have a close look at the dogs skin top to bottom and in between. This could be many things but hunks of fur sounds like mange or an allergy to fleas or something along those lines. If you don't see anything I'd make a vet appointment. Doesn't seem normal to me. It could be allergies to something in the home or food as well. Shellie |
No, not normal. Have the vet take a skin scrape to test for "varmits." Also might be a food allergy or other allergy. |
Agreed - not normal. Take the poor girl to your vet and get her checked out |
It could also be thyroid related. I would suggest a complete thyroid panel sent to Michigan State for evaluation. Most time thyroid is very easily & economically controlled. |
One of the newest "upcoming' parasites next to 'bedbugs' inthe USA are scabies. They are the only zoonotic parasites that cross from human to dog or dog to human. You can catch them from a motel room.....from bedspreads etc. Make sure you get to a vet and have skin scrapings done. do you see the scratching come in 2 week to 10 day intrvals? Good luck! |
