The detangler alone? The oil? Or the detangling, clarifying stuff? I have both, and I only use the actual oil detangler in emergencies in a matted area. The cream stuff, the detangling clarifyer stuff is awesome to use while bathing them, it detangles, you don;t have to use much ,and it rinses out nicely without leaving the coat oily at all. |
LOL...I had to go out to the car & get it to be sure. It's the Detangler & Shine. I opened it to see and it's not a cream, it's an oil.
It must sell really well because there were only two bottles of it and one shampoo. There was none of the cream detangler you mentioned. So, what I have should be used as is and sparingly? |
Yes, but I also have about an ounce of it in a spray bottle of water for when I'm grooming. It helps to line brush the white areas (which tend to mat more than dark areas) but I only use it if necessary, and only a little bit. |
What ratio do you use for dilution? 1 part oil, 2 parts water? |
Here is a link to a site that shows pics and descriptions of each product. I have the demineralizer and the dentagler and shine....

I will try to find the Demineralizer too, for when I bathe them. I'll bet that helps keep tangles out, too.
Very helpful! Thanks ever so much! Heeheehee....now I can't wait to get home and break out the grooming table! |
As to the dilution for the spray bottle, one ounce of the detangler oil, to about 7 or 8 parts water. And of course, since oil and water don't mix, shake it well before each spray. |
I bought it too and I'm finding that it works pretty well as a mat preventative even more than actually getting mats out in the first place. I do about a quarter size amount in my hands, rub them together and lightly run my hands all over Clyde and then brush it through. It doesn't make him greasy or too soft. |
That stuff works GREAT!! HUGE improvement over just brushing. Wow!
This is a little mean, but it's also funny, so I'm gonna tell you anyway. My SIL was giving me grief about having Beau's hair cut. She couldn't believe I did it and was saying how getting those mats out couldn't be THAT much trouble. I tried to explain it to her, but she just laughed it off. So, I had an idea. I have to be at church every night this week for Vacation Bible School. Since her boys are there with me, I asked her if she'd mind coming by to groom the dogs for me. They just can't go all week without being brushed! She graciously agreed to help. Well, when I got home at 10:00 p.m. last night, she called to tell me how much WORK it was to groom them and how her back hurt from it! I had brushed Genevieve out completely on Saturday, but not Sunday, so she had gone two days and it was a little worse than normal. BUT, I was so anxious to try out the Cowboy Magic, I had already spent 30 minutes on her when I was home. She and my brother both worked on her for about 45 minutes. Of course, Beau is easy right now, but they still spent about 20 minutes on him. She said she couldn't have done it without my brother's help and WOW "Do you do this every day?" I very graciously thanked her for her efforts and told her I'd leave the Cowboy Magic out where she could find it tonight. I told you it was kind of mean. |
Too funny... Good job!!! LOL
Still... so many simply do not realize how much work and diligence goes into maintaining a coat, I think new oes owners should have a grooming session with a fully coated dog before they decide to buy, unless they are fine with a shaved sheepie, which is fine too. |
I agree with you completely.
Add to that the fact that first few months with puppy coat kind of lull you into complacency (sp?) and you think "oh this isn't so bad"! What a shocker when they start blowing their coat! I love their coats long, but it is nice right now to have one of them be short so my adjustment to having to groom two dogs can be slow & easy. |
Tammy make sure that there is no oil in it, it will be a mess. This will pick up every piece of dirt and dust. Believe me, after 30 years of grooming oes, I found out the hard way. That is why I like "The Stuff"
You are supposed to brush your dogs EVERY day to keep them in full show coats and to me that is the only way I want mine to be. Never shave Beau again, like I said, I call the oes police LOL He looked so cute with his puppy hair. |
I'm going to try my best Ingrid! I promise!! |
I used The Stuff on Belle. |
I'm guess Bentley was too far gone to try using it on him?
Ingrid says it works great. I was going to get some, but I couldn't find it locally. Ordering it online, the freight was more than the product. So, I'll probably order some other things too (GREAT- an excuse to shop!) to make it worthwhile. |
No "Stuff" in the world was going to help Bentley short of a razor! I can't wait to see him all shaved down! |
I live in Ohio - where do you purchase this? - at local Petsmart (Did not find) or is it something I would have to pick up at a store that caters to farm animals. Any recommendations on which one is the better of the two? |
