He was + for strep in the urine. This is rather unusual, as most UTI's are from E.Coli. The drug that was the most sensitive for this type of strep was Ditrim. It is equal to a humans bactrim. He has been on the drug x 7 days. The vet gave me another week supply just to be sure. Jessy is still peeing in the house, although he is walked every 4 hours at most. He is noe 5 months old. He had not peed in the house since he was 12 wks old. Then 2 weeks ago he started peeing in the house, and that's when we went to the vet. Why do you think he is still peeing in the house. Has this now become a habit? Do I have to re-train him? He is a big boy, 55 lbs he is able to have 2 rooms with my cocker spaniel when I'm not home. Do I now have to put him back in the kitchen with a gate? He sleeps in a crate, but does not ever go in it for any other reason. Usually Ozzie, the cocker spaniel goes there during the day. Please give me your advice. I thought he'd be able to go 5 hours by now. Ellen, Jessy and Ozzie |

Is he infection clear? Have a retest. If clear, start the training over again. Little puppy brains forget especially after the painful UTIs. If he has continual UTI, have him evaluated by a specialist. He might have a plumbing issue. Keep him clean and tidy down there, tho I bet he's doing his own housekeeping. Never hurts to have another maid. Have you put him in diapers? Male bands about the tummy might keep him dry when in other parts of the house. Poor guy. |
I too would have him rechecked, including another culture. He may have a combination of bugs and need a different antibiotic that will take care of all. I had a OES that had UTI's every 6 weeks. After my screaming for cultures, they found ecoli and strep. Finally got a medication that would knock out both, not just one. Never had one after. Poor Jessy |
