Brick is on doxycycline for the next 30 days

I sent that tick that was on Brick's muzzle to a lab for pathogen testing. It came back negative for Lyme disease but positive for anaplasmosis.
I gave that info to my vet and she immediately started him on liquid doxycycline. He'll get 1.1 mL once a day for the next 30 days.
I bring him back on Nov. 10th for an anaplasmosis test and then again on December 8th for a Lyme test.

Sigh, it's always something with these guys. They're gonna turn my hair gray.

you are right in the hotspot for that.......I'm sorry. Good Dad for having it analyzed.
Poor boy! Give him extra hugs for me. :ghug:
So for clarification sake, he's technicallly not sick.
The tick was found to have the bacteria that causes anaplasmosis. Just because the tick had the bacteria doesn't necessarily mean that Brick will contract it.
The vet put him on the doxy as a prophylactic treatment, out of an abundance of caution.

But we still appreciate all the good thoughts. :)
Doxy is in short supply, glad you got some. Kdog had to go on something similar when she had heartworm. Fortunately it worked. Yes, better play it safe for the old man.
Better safe than sorry.
Hopefully the prophylaxis is not necessary.
I didn't know you could have ticks analysed. We don't them where we live but apparently with climate change they are more likely to arrive so I was interested to hear your account. You can never learn too much when it comes to health.
Mim,
Ticks and Lyme disease are so bad up here in the northeast U.S. that many labs have popped up offering the service.
Brick had his first Snap 4Dx Plus test yesterday and it came back negative.
This one was mainly for anaplasmosis testing.
So, good news so far.

He gets a second Snap 4Dx Plus test on December 8th. That one will be mainly for lyme testing.
Update:
He's off the doxy.

Next Snap 4Dx Plus test is on December 8th.
Your bank account will be happy! Doxy isn't cheap......unless you guys are hording it up there. Glad Brick is coming out OK. Hugs to the old man.........dog. You are on your own.
The liquid doxy was $80 for a month's supply.

I'd rather buy that than the trilostane, which is almost $200 per month.
When Kdog was facing heartworm treatment the doxy bill was going to be $40 per day. Maybe a temporary shortage back then. Found something that came to $150 a month for 3 months. Tolerable. And worked.
