Benson's Next "Public Appearance"

Benson is getting ready for a busy 4 days! We are heading up to Hartford, CT to the Association of Professional Dog Trainers annual conference, where Benson (and her buddy, Dory) will be giving 2 weightpulling demonstrations. Not to mention, she'll be hanging out with us* at our booth in the exhibitors hall. AND - since she'll be there anyway, she's been invited to participate in 2 additional workshops!

For anyone in that area, the exhibitor area is open to the public on Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. We're in booth #423 - stop by and say hi!

She's gonna be a very tired girl by the time we get home!

Yeah, but all the attention she will receive will pep her up. She is a good ambassador for the breed.
We are home, and I am so proud of my little trooper! Our booth was constantly busy, so she spent most of her days hanging in her crate:

We did 2 demonstrations (and were the only organization to do 2!) She was really excited for Thursday's demo, but by Saturday morning she was getting tired and bored. She got so tired of waiting for our "cue" to demonstrate harness fitting, she plopped down in the middle of the floor, flipped over on her back - and wouldn't stand up for any reason (more bellyrubs, Mommy!). I stopped short of picking her up and setting her on her feet - you know someone would take that as a signal I was forcing her to pull. I finally got her up by having her run over to my partner, who is much more exciting than boring old me. Then I put her harness on, and she proudly strutted her stuff for the rest of the hour.

Since she was there, the organizers asked if she could participate in a couple of the workshops as well. It worked really well - they have experienced trainers handling the participating dogs, and I was really impressed with how they took time to bond with their temporary charges, and with the volunteers running the doggie "green room" where the dogs waited between sessions.

We were also happy to get such great response from the attendees about weightpulling. Everyone who stopped by our booth was - or shortly became - impressed with the training benefits as well as the sport. Frankly, the only negatives we have received were from a couple of anonymous internet commenters, who we cordially invited to chat with us directly. (Spoiler alert: they didn't. )

And of course, Benson is one very tired puppy today. She slept soundly until early afternoon (I heard lots of dream yipping and running). She's had some outside playtime now, and got to open her BarkBox, so all is right with her world again.

:wag:
I just love how this breed can be both gorgeous and athletic at the same time, not to mention smart, loving and loyal. Benson is a wonderful ambassador for the breed.
