To Pluck Or Not?

I've read a lot on this forum about how to pluck ears and understand the why. Recently, my vet told me it isn't recommended anymore. I know our breeder told us to pluck our puppy's ears, and I have. I wholly trust and respect our breeder and will do what she says. Just curious what everyone else's thoughts were? I did see on another thread that some people don't pluck their dogs' ears. We will be showing her. Is it more for show grooming, so the ears lay closer to the head? Thanks!

We have 2 sibling dogs, and I pluck one's ears and not the other's. One simply tolerates it better, and I have to say; the one with the plucked ears has less ear wax build up.
My vet told me a while ago that vet dermatologists in Australia are saying to try not plucking in dogs who get repeated ear infections.
It came up when I told him Tiggy seemed to get irritated ears after I pluck that occasionally turned into an infection.
I've only plucked once since because her ear was a bit full of waxy hair. So far its working for us.
Kdog will LOVE this! She is Miss Ear Infection so I will continue to clean but leave the hair........some how I'll get the yuck out.
Sprocket has 1 waxy ear and 1 "dry" ear. He is very good at letting me tease long hair out of both ears and I thin and trim them. He has a "special" biscuit for letting me do them. He also gets hairs that grow into his eyes and he lets me sort those.x
I have always plucked mine with powder and hemostats then flush with medicated ear solution. Got extremely busy last summer and thought I was keeping Bear Bears plucked but had a long hair I just couldn't get so I left it. She was getting agitated. Went back couple days later, and oh my, thought I had pulled some kind of bug out. Nope, just large clog of hair that was deep and a nasty infection under it all. It actually leaked all over her bed that night and took her to vet the first thing the next morning. I felt like such a bad mommy!!! So I always pluck and flush. Saw a lot of nastiness when I worked with a groomer years ago on dogs that had fuzzy ears and were not plucked. The hair seems to trap all the moisture and gunk. But I also think each dog can be different and the owner should decide. Just letting you all know what I have experienced.
I do think it is a dog by dog issue. Kdog is a major hair grower as well, what a tuft of hair! MO and Jack together didn't have the hair this girls puts out. Yeah, brown steaks on the ear flap is a good indication things are amiss down there. I won't clean and pluck on the same day, too painful....alcohol on freshly plucked hair skin) More like pluck what greasy stuff I can get day 1, clean day 2 and pluck again day 3.

Quite by accident I found something that has helped her ears...........Tucks. Yep the bum wipes for uprights. On a whim I grabbed a few (got them for colonoscopy relief....don't) and swabbed her ears. They remained cleaner longer than with anything else. Maybe it was a fluke and will try again next cleaning (today was a clean day;alcohol: vinegar: water--she hates smelling like pickles)
