Help. My Charlie has more swagger than he wants!

Hi, Charlie is a 2 year old OES. We did a change in his food last February. Since then, he has steadily gained weight. He's about 20  pounds heavier. I had been noticing he was putting weight on, but only recently figured out it is related to the food change. He has had no change in behaviour. We switched him to Kirkland Chicken, Rice and Vegetable. My question is for those who feed their dog this brand, what amount do you feed them? We had been following the guideline but it's obviously too much. Is 3 cups enough? He should only weigh 75 pounds (he is a small OES, or use to be  ). Thanks

My 114 pound dog (who needs to weigh more like 110 pounds) is eating 2.5 cups in the morning and 2 cups at night. The vet requested that I carefully measure out these amounts for each meal. He is eating the Kirkland's salmon and sweet potato.
Obviously for his body it is too much. Take him back to no more than 3 cups a day.........Kensie would be thrilled with that much, she gets less. No more than 2 cookies per day, if you need more, split what you have into slivers. If he hasn't lost weight in a month, reduce to 2 1/2 cups a day. Up the exercise, longer walks, more time outside now that the weather is cooling off. Get a good supplement......even just fish oil will help. Glucosamine either pill or powder...we use some powder that also has the Omegas...like from fish oil.

You bear has been packing it on over summer, he doesn't need it for winter, time to start knocking it off. Many of us have been successful with the green bean diet where we exchange half their food with canned green beans, no salt type. Glacier went from 156 to 82 on the diet and when she reached her weight refused to eat another vegetable,   Kensie hates green beans but it good on most everything else......which are treats for her; she'll dance for Brussels sprouts.
Charm is only eating two cups a day. She became slightly overweight when classes began(treats), and the green bean diet worked for her. On class days, she gets 1.5 cups day now and her weight is steady. As Sheepieboss suggested, monitor progress, each is individual.
Wow. I guess I have been overfeeding. I'll definitely cut back to 3 cups. I haven't heard of the green bean diet. It's not harmful?
Nope, one can per day, half in morning, half in afternoon. It took awhile to get her started, a few green beans and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese or drizzle of oil from tuna can. After she had the taste, no problem. She would not eat fresh cooked or frozen.

In place of a biscuit, you can give a slice of apple or other fruit/veggie. No grapes or raisins.

If he really is a lazy bum, 2 cups kibble per day. Right Now Kdog is getting about 1 1/2 cups some fruit and veggie in her "toy box"--what I leave her when I leave the house. Cucumbers are a new favorite.
Monty is active has 1 3/4 in the morning and in the evening of NOW, sometimes with a egg or half tin of salmon in the evening. He has a carrot and a stick of celery as a treat during the day. He is 75 pounds and you can feel his ribs. The dogs have been on a diet a couple of times because I gave too much peanut butter kongs, poor dogs don't get peanut butter anymore.
I feed both of mine aprx 3 cups per day and I split it in a morning and even feeding. I have used the Kirkland lamb and rice which is an outstanding food, but since Macie was on Natures Domain Salmon and Sweet Potato, I've kept them both on it. Also a Costco brand and a good one too. You can also substitute shredded mini wheat cereal, not the frosted kind, for treats. Mine really like them. Fruit is also good.
