This may be my next Sheepie

It's just past a year since Panda passed away and left a huge hole in my heart. Each of my dogs that have passed have all been special but perhaps because Panda needed me more than the others I noticed his passing the most. Merlin too misses his sleeping buddy and so after a year of searching (they are still rare in my area) Petfinder found me one 14 hrs away from home. The shelter manager a very reliable woman wrote me several times - pages long info (which I found impressive) about a sheepie girl named Sally.
The logistics of how I was going to do this was what has caused the delay as it means crossing the border with Merlin and dealing with a 14 hr drive as the shelter insist he comes to meet her too. Of course I agree, as reputable shelters do this as after all she's going to be his housemate.
She looks to be a mix as her coat is dark but her size is Sheepie...she's a big 100 pound girl! She's been in the shelter for some time - adopted twice and returned as her adopters found her too rambunctious (meaning she was too bouncy for the families). However, she's super friendly but does tend to jump a lot on people. Thus, they want an experienced home and the manager is being super picky as she wants sweet Sally to go to the right forever home. I finally figured out the logistics of how I would make a 14 hr drive . I'll go down on Sat and stay at a pet friendly hotel....meet Sally the following day and then hopefully drive home with my new girl and Merlin's new wife on Sunday (not to be misunderstood regarding "wife" as both furkids are fixed). But I know they'll be sleeping together. :D
Here's Sally. She has Panda's face! And a tail too like my Shaggy girl did.

Here's hoping things will work out and Sally likes us.

Best wishes for your journey and that Sally and Merlin become best friends!
Oh Marianne, I hope so much this works out for you and the fur kids.

Sally is beautiful.
Good luck! :D

and I'm hoping they did a cat test on her by now? (Says don't know how she is with cats on her page). That would be a deal breaker at your house if she doesn't leave little animals alone.
She's lovely! (And definitely a big girl!)

Safe travels, and good luck with Sally. She's lucky to have found a loving home with you!

:ghug:
Hi,
Thanks everyone! I haven't met sweet Sally yet as I'll be making the drive down this weekend. They further tested Sally and she ignores cats - whew good thing as that would be a deal breaker for me for sure at my place. (it's why I considered getting a pup or perhaps an oldie for that reason) but then , along came Sally and while it's not a sure thing yet as she may dislike Merlin on sight.
Lets hope not and it's a match made in heaven but we'll have to see. I have no doubt that Merlin who has always accepted every critter that arrives here will be okay but he would get upset if HIS smaller charges...cats...bunnies were bothered so I'll make sure I feel confident that Sally really does like cats and ignores small animals.
Good luck!
She looks like like a happy girl.
My DH calls Tiggy his Rambunctious girl. :D
Good luck to you - meeting Sally.
She look very playful, I like that kind of dogs.
Brings a lot of life into Our house.......best wishes!
have a good feelin sally belongs with u she needs u
oh she is lovely. fingers and paws crossed that this is a perfect match...safe driving x
She's a stout girl, built like a brick outhouse, but still in a tuxedo suit!!! Genetic testing might clue you in to her "other half". Hope this works out, she looks like a real keeper.
Oh I really hope that its a good fit for you! I inquired on Sally too, since we got to Moscow frequently (just across the border from Pullman). Her female dominance was something that we decided against because of our female collie. I hope that she works out well for you. :)
How exciting, have fun and hope it works out.
Pretty name for a pretty girl. I hope it all works out and she becomes one of yours. She has a confident stance :hearts:
Good luck and safe travels! Hope it all works out great!

Cindy
Fingers crossed for all of you!
Hope everything works out and that Sally is a perfect fit with Merlin! :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
Oh I saw her and considered swooping her up! That mask and big huge kissable nose is almost irresistible. :aww: :aww: I really want another sheepie but having a new little human around right now it isn't feasible. That would be great if everything works out for you. Fingers are crossed everything works out. :crossed: :crossed:
You saw Sally!!! Do you mean in person or online?

I'm going to meet the big girl on Sunday. Took a bit of logistics to figure out as the long drive and bringing Merlin at the same time was a bit difficult to figure out. I found a pet friendly hotel so we'll stay the night in Pullman on Sat and go visit Sally on Sunday. Still a heck of a drive as it's 7 hrs each way (Kaj doesn't drive) but at least I'll have a co-pilot to help with directions. I clipped Merlin as he was 4 pounds over the weight limit for the hotel so he looks a tad smaller. Hope he forgives me for his very bad scissor cut!

I'm so impressed that the shelter had the vet visit on Thursday and she now has her updated rabies and certificate of health to be free to cross the border with no troubles. I did the same for Merlin as well - also with the same mindset don't want any problems or delays when I cross with him.

Ironically, Merlin was born in Washington State so they may be kissing cousins! Lets all hope they like each other! Her size is quite big for a female (100 pounds) but the shelter suspects she may be a OES/ Great Pyranees. Dunno as she does have a dark coat so who knows? I love her already and sigh her big face reminds me so much of Panda.

I'll post on Monday and update everyone!
Cheers
Marianne
I saw her online but that didn't stop me from almost driving over there! lol. Pullman is on the complete other side of Washington than me, 6 1/2 hour drive. I live in Port Angeles. She seems a little thick (especially in the face) to be part Pyrenees.
How did it go? Let us know as soon and you know!!!

Merlin and Sally when we arrived home last night. She still had her haltie on at the time. The shelter had called her Salvation (aka Sally)

I'll keep everyone updated as to the honeymoon period ! .
I'm thinking she's a OES mix with Bermese Mountain dog or St. Bernard as she's got that huge head.
Congratulations! I'm so happy for you that they're getting along. She looks tired after her long trip, but I'm sure she'll feel completely at home in no time.

Keep us posted!

Yay! congrats!!!
Yay!!! She looks so tired. Hope all goes well for you all. Bet everyone is tired!! After a good nights sleep for all, send more pics, please, And she does look big, looking at those paws.....
I am so happy for both of you, hope everything goes well.
Great news, a new beginning for all
Thanks everyone!

I can say with almost 99% certainty that I think the MIX part is Newfie.(That would explain her dark coat too) First thing she did after I took her out in the yard was spy the fish ponds and immediately jump in. They are small so she sat down in each one....then proceeded to dunk her head underwater in search of the goldfish...egads! Merlin non too pleased barked and barked at her to get outta there. Plants all destroyed , fountains knocked over and her lumbering wet body emerged with a huge smile . She looking pretty pleased with herself.
To top it off she then rubbed her body along the cedar hedges so that all those wonderful pine needles fell on her wet coat. Then raced into the house. Oh joy! She met one of the cats (who refused to move as all the others scattered) and while she wasn't aggressive at all she did the play/chase bow and pawed at the cat to play. Kitty let her know that was not acceptable and Merlin barked and barked more. Ahhhh no honeymoon period for this couple she just jumped in and acted like her normal self.
Well.....all I can say is glad the fish were okay and I did fill up a kiddies pool for her. She's going to take some work but overall is a real sweetheart. A puppy in a 105 pound body! I have my work cut out for me but up for the challenge.
She sounds soo fun and cheerful! Poor merlin, sounds like she will be a challenge for him too. Since she is so big and loves water, maybe you could find a local newfy club and train for water rescue. I bet she would LOVE that! (I realize how cold the straight of juan de fuca and lakes are in your area, its the same here but for 2 weeks out of the year you could do it! lol)
She sounds very sweet, I hope she fits in real well.
She sounds like a great addition! I hope that she settles in quickly and that Merlin and the kitties grow to love her very much.
Sure sounds like she was making herself at home.
The best of both worlds, a Newfy and an OES mix, lol, she sounds like fun and goofy!
