hair around the rump... how long should be trimmed?????
Ok. difficult to explain in English.  I have a guy who bath and groom Shanti, but I think that he should cut shorter the rump hair (- In Spanish is called the Plató)...... now the hair is 7 inches or so....
the thing is that when Shanti does popo (the second one when you go to the bathroom) he goes to a tree or corner... he does it well, but nothing drops, the popo starts dropping when he start walking... in the middle of the sidewalk...  like horses do!
So do you know how long should be the hair of the plató or rump? Do you know a website/link where it shows a picture how should be the hair around the rump?

| We try to keep the area diectly around Woof's anus just a couple of inches - It makes no difference to how he looks as the longer hair higher on his rump drapes over it. It does however, help to stop the "poop stuck in the hair and falling off whilst he walks" syndrome you were talking about... |
| Thanks Mikeyg. Tomorrow the guy who grooms Shanti will came to pick him up... so I will tell him what you have adviced me: "keep the area diectly around the anus just a couple of inches" i.e. 5 cm...

Yes. Again me... Think that neither Shanti's groomer and I got the idea how to groom the back.  Should it be as when he was a puppy? Do you have any picture of your sheepie to see how should be the grooming/cut...?

Pisco had the same problem but I just got a pair of scissors and trimmed the area around his anus real short. end of the problem. (Guys, Ron: I don`t know if I can do this but it seams that Danik might understand me more if I say it in spanish. Is it OK?) -Danik, agarra un par de tijeras y cortale alrededor del ano lo mas corto que puedas si tocar la colita en si....me funciono muy bien con Pisco. |

I have said that to the groomer but he said that Shanti still having a puppy hair, so he can't do it  so...
don't get it... Shanti use to have that part trimmed when he was a puppy... Note: Entiendo lo que uds aconsejan, pero no entiendo por qué el que lo baña dice que todavía no puede cortarle bien esa parte... !!! besos dani |

Do you have a pair of rounded points scissors at home? try doing it your self...I did that with Pisco.....baby hair is true but around the anus wont really do any harm...Pisco is 7 month now and I`ve been doing it since he was 3 month...and his hair is just beautifull no harm done. |
yes I do... but you know... when he was a puppy I tried to trimmed or do the plato, but I am soooooooo bad doing that... he ended with a PUNK look at his back  He moves a lot.....

Regarding the grooming... think that the guy is going to quit next year!! So I will have to learn how to groom Shanti every other week. I don't worry about summer as we play a lot with water. I am worry about his hair ears and plato = (Trimming aroung his anus).- Still don't know how to do it  I need a step by step picture... so dumb... well thats the way I am

I have pictures of him of our last trip up in the hills near Lima....we went rafting (canotaje) and although we didn`t take Pisco in the raft he ran all along the bank of the river...until he got tired and had to be picked up after we arrive....  |
| hehe... we are going out of topic but that is soooo fun for Pisco. I would love to go to a farm or country (campo) so Shanti would enjoy running without a leash. I have tried to search on internet where to go and where dogs are allowed... haven't have any luck yet. |
| We have a place we take Truman just outside Wichita (where we live). It is a small country cemetery we found during our wanderings. One of our hobbies is researching cemeteries and the unusual/historic tombstones found in the older ones. Anyway, this cemetery is about 3 acres and completely fenced. We go there and sometimes take a picnic and let Truman run. (We always make sure to clean up after him, so as not to be disrespectful of the grounds). He absolutely loves to race around weaving in and out of the monuments running like the wind. This may sound strange but I feel like maybe some of the people resting there are happy to see this young strong dog running free..... |
| yep...we are way of the subject...but fun thogh....Dani I hope you can solve your trouble with Shanti`s hair ......but maybe when you are grooming him if he is anything like PIsco who just gets sleepy when I do it you can try and cut it then.....
Luckily for me and Pisco on the parks here in Lima you have to have your dog on a leash only until 7 pm after that they can ran free and I have 2 parks nearby that we go every day, Pisco just has the time of his life running and playing with other dogs 3 more are OES...2 of them his best friends Ruffus and Paco (this one is a strange OES check my post on "genes gone crazy).....
