I have been lurking on this site for about two years in hopes of someday having my own OES. I have wanted one since I was a little girl (and I'm in my 50s now!). I've had Dock for a week now, and I already love him. He is a great companion, and follows me wherever I go. He is well-trained (responds to commands to sit, lay down, stay, and go out), potty trained, and crate trained. If someone knows how to make the picture smaller, I'd be happy to adjust it. |

Congrats! You found each other, a match made in heaven. I hope you share many years of happiness together. So wonderful to hear he was a rescue. 110 lbs?? wow, I have always had females, never that big. Please take pic to show how big he is, maybe next to you?? I see you live in Charleston. Have you taken him to the beach yet? I live in Rock Hill, SC. Nice to see someone who lives closer to me on here. Maybe we will meet in the future. |
Welcome from Ohio!!! Dock looks like one handsome boy!! Can't wait to see more photos. And don't worry about the size of the photos. We love all sheepie photos regardless of the size! Vance |
Welcome from Washington, DC. Dock looks like he is a big sweet boy! My puppy is 3 months old and growing fast. I'm anxious to see how large he'll get. More pics please! |
Welcome, What a lovely looking boy. Post more pictures please!! |
Welcome!! Nice to see Dock landing in a good place. Been following his saga on FB. Looking forward to all his stories. |
What a great name! thank you for rescue! I suspect you've got yourself a heart throb The boys are especially loving. Oh how I miss Jack, but don't tell Kdog right behind me. What is Dock wearing? |
Welcome to you and Dock! He's a handsome fella with a happy smile Was he in trouble, Mark mentioned his "saga"? Thank you for helping him, you are feeling his gratitude already. Aren't they the most loving??? |
Thank you all for such a warm welcome! mable4ever, I have not taken him to the beach yet. It is very hot, and he is very hot-natured. He doesn't have much energy right now, due to health issues, so we don't go on long walks or exercise much yet. It would be nice to meet another Sheepie owner. Vance, thank you for making me feel welcome here. More pictures soon. learsylvania, what fun to watch your puppy grow larger by the minute! I wanted to start out my OES experience with an adult dog, but I can see the joy in having a puppy. montyQ's, thank you! I will post some pictures soon. CamVal1, I know many people have been following Dock's story. I'm glad to officially meet one of them. He's so worth the extra effort. I can't imagine having a sweeter, lovelier dog (although he does have the characteristic OES stubborness). SheepieBoss, Dock is an absolute heart throb! He stole my heart before I ever met him. Dock is wearing doggy "Legs," which are foam cushions for his elbows. He developed some calluses (which then turned into large, fleshy growths) from pushing up on his elbows. One of the growths was removed and one of the growths has greatly reduced in size since he's been wearing the sleeves. The sleeves just keep his elbows from getting re-irritated when he pushes up. Right now, there are no plans to remove the other growth, but that could happen in the future. With Dock, we're dealing with the most urgent issues first. auntybren, he is a very loving dog! He has had many issues, mostly health ones. If you would like to know more about his saga, you can like the Old English Sheepdog Network of the Southwest's facebook page, and read about him. They got him in February, but his story goes back a little further than that. He's had cancer in his toe, food allergies, a staph infection, and several other things go wrong. Right now we're dealing with anemia (but his blood is regenerating with steroids) and heart worms. He can't go through heart worm treatment until his blood counts are good. The anemia may be recurring, and could even be Evan's disease, but we just don't know at this point. Basically, I am lucky to have him for however long I have him. His life could be short, or he could live a long life. Either way, I just want him to be happy and feel loved. |
Welcome to the board and congrats on getting this special boy. Is he wearing sleeves on his front legs???? |
WOW! Poor Dock with so many issues. I say he is LUCKY to of found YOU!!! What were the outcomes of toe, allergies, staph? Sorry I dont do the facebook stuff. Is he on special food now? No wonder he doesn't have any energy. Does he have trouble getting up? The elbow sores you said were caused from pushing up? I know in my heart he feels the love from you and that must make him feel so special and happy. Good mental health surely will help him heal. I will say prayers to help also. Were you able to adopt him or are you fostering him? I know sometimes the rescue groups will not adopt out if they have heart worms and health issues. Did you have to find a specialized vet to help with his health issues? Sending prayers and hugs to you both |
how great that you got dock i too have followed his story lucky for both of u keep us posted |
Paula O, he is wearing sleeves on his front legs to keep calluses from building up on his elbows. Mabel4Ever, he did have cancer in his toe, but the cancer has not returned. He is now eating grain-free food and his coat and skin issues have improved dramatically. I have adopted him, although the rescue is continuing to help with some of the ongoing issues. I always appreciate prayers and good wishes. Suzptcruise, Thank you for your encouragement. He's a special boy. |
Welcome from Illinois! Dock is one handsome boy! Hope you get some of his health issues resolved and kudos too you for taking in this special boy! Cindy |
Oh I'm so glad you and Dock made it here to OES.org!!! I'm friends with Fiona, who rescued, fostered and rehabilitated Dock. She has so much nice stuff to say about him- he's quite a special boy! I look forward to seeing more photos and reading about your adventures together! |
Good to meet you, Darth Snuggle. I am still in almost constant contact with Fiona, asking questions and getting advice. Dock is a great dog. I can't imagine a better match for me. |
My Mom with Dock. It's hard to tell how big he is, but he's sitting up here, not standing. |
Me with Dock when I first met him. I am 5'9". |
I found the facebook page and read about him. WOW, he is very lucky to of found you. He looks so great and happy with your Mom. What a great pic. He does look a little big. His coat is looking good. The food must be agreeing with him. What do you have him on? How long will he have to wear his special sleeves? Does he seem bothered by them? I wish you both many years of happiness and good health together. |
mable4ever, He is eating Kirkland's grain-free salmon and sweet potato dry food, mixed with water. He is also taking Prednisone, a drug to settle his stomach from the effects of prednisone, and some thyroid medicine. He's going to my vet Friday to get some bloodwork done and to see how the anemia is responding. We're hoping that his blood is continuing to regenerate enough that we can wean him off the prednisone. He will always take the thyroid medicine. Dock doesn't seem to mind the sleeves at all. They do keep him from running much, but otherwise he is fine with them. I'm not sure how long the sleeves will stay on---he had one of the fleshy growths removed, but the other one is still there. The sleeves keep it from getting any larger, and I think they have helped reduce it in size (or they've just kept it from getting irritated, so it has reduced in size on its own.) Think good thoughts for us on Friday. I'm just happy to have him. We'll take whatever comes for as long as we can. He needed a home and a person to call his own. |
Welcome! Dock is a handsome boy and I too have followed his story. So happy you and Dock are together! Keep us posted as to his progress! |
How did Docks vet visit go on Friday? |
Welcome from Tennessee! Dock is absolutely gorgeous! What a sweet face. |
Love the pic of Dock - 110 pound bundle of sweetness and love! He looks like a very nice and loving dog. Best wishes and hope for him. Looking forward to more pics of lovely Dock. |
sheepiezone, thank you for the welcome. I'm so glad there are people here who know about Dock and all that he has been through. mable4ever, the vet visit was good. Dock charmed everyone there, and the vet tech and the vet sat in the floor with him and just talked to me and him while they drew blood. They stayed with us for about half an hour, just getting to know us. His blood work results are not great, though. His blood count has fallen, although his platelet count went up. We are adding some more medication, getting more thorough blood work done this Friday, and probably going to see a specialist regarding his anemia. The diagnosis of Evan's disease is pretty certain. Sam, thank you. I think he is a lovely boy! His face and his perseverance are what drew me to him. Labbetussa, Dock thanks you for your admiration. BTW, I love seeing all the pictures of your dogs and hearing about their exploits. |
