Just picked up a Surface Pro 3

Got tired of fiddle-farting around with a kid's toy, so I picked this up.

Robin's starting to look at new computers for work, and this is in the running. The big question is, how do you like that keyboard? His work is VERY keyboard intense - TONS of data entry, especially when the census reports come out. I'm talking hours at a time.

Looks nice! Enjoy your new "toy!"
The keyboard seems great so far. I'd recommend Robin go to Best Buy & check them out. See if he likes the keyboard.
The nice thing about the Surface Pro 3 is that it's a regular full-power computer that can be used as a tablet when needed.
Best of all worlds.

Plus, they sell a dock for it so it can be turned into a desktop. It will run all the regular office productivity programs, has a USB port, has a MicroSD port, has a video-out port, comes with a pen that can be used to draw on the screen, and on and on.
It looks like fun. I haven't seen one "in person" - but they are mid-sized?
I have my ASUS laptop, and when I got it, went with the larger size on purpose for better screen size. I mostly use it at work, for 12 hour shifts. So the larger size isn't a big deal most of the time. I get there, and it sits in place.

However, when I go to take it when I travel (shows and trials with motel stays), it gets more bothersome. I already have enough crap to lug around and it is just one more item to tote with. :( I have friends with iPads, and other tablets and got kind of jealous. So I went out and got a Samsung Tab 3 lite last week. So far I love it. I've just started playing around with it, and getting some apps loaded. It's main purpose is with travel, and I love that I can tuck it in a tote bag and it barely takes up any space at all. :)

I also just ordered a cover that has a keyboard attached with it....more toys!
The reason I chose the Surface Pro 3 was because I wanted the portability of a tablet, yet didn't want to give up the power & usability of a real computer.
I believe the Surface is the only tablet that exists in this niche.
I found the iPad to very toy-like, with many compromises/limitations built into it. The Surface Pro does not have any of those compromises/limitations.

The fact it weighs only 1.46 or 1.75 lbs is a plus, too.
Silly me, when I first saw your post, I for some reason thought it said go pro and you were going to strap it to your sheepies head and take videos so we could get a view of what goes on in their world.
Mark, that looks pretty nice!!

We've been buying Dell and HP laptops a lot at work lately and since it's my job to receive these new toys in and get them all set up for each user, I've gotten a lot of keyboard time and the one thing that I've noticed is that all the newer laptops, mid and full-sized that we've gotten in have a separated number key pad and that's real darn handy if you're doing any amount of numbers input.

But what you have looks pretty sweet if you're not doing any number crunching.

Mark, I'm not sure how you feel about Win8, (I personally don't like the look of 8 and from a commercial standpoint, it's a bit to animated leading employees to 'play' too much), but there is a pretty good CNet piece on how to tone down 8 to look and behave more like win7. Here it is if you're so inclined to do any of the tips they offer up.

Now that I've had time to play with it, I feel that Win8 is a great OS. For a tablet or a touch device.
Not sure how well it works for a non-touch device.

Thanks for the link, Vance. I'll take a look at that article a little later.
I was "forced" into win8 by my company. I now have a win8 phone, tablet and computer. I have been using them for almost a year. I love them and would not go back to an older system. As an aside, I just replaced by almost 80 year old mom's computer with a win8 version. She also likes it and says it is much easier to use than her old winXP computer.
