We know this problem very well. My old boy used to do this.... AT LEAST 8 out of 10 times as you said. I always say people don't understand the problem (the magnitude) unless they do it as much as you described. It can be pure MISERY ....We always doubled up on regular mens socks or the kids soccer socks because one pair would just soak through. Someone mentioned before having a pair made of material where it would just run off, instead of socking through as it does with cotton. I'd keep at least 5 pairs (really 10 if I doubled) on me. That kept the cleaning down and my sanity. If he peed on himself, I did use ICE on ICE conditioner spray...not spraying it on because that will do NOTHINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG for a dog that has peed full force on one leg. I would drown that leg in it. Then use a towel to dry off. Just watering the leg down with a hose wasn't effective either because the smell was so strong. It was only pouring huge amounts of ICE ON ICE on the towel and then scrubbing it in the leg that would help for me. Cutting the hair short helps.... making them go A LOT so there is not a lot of urine also works. Letting the hair on the penis grow a tad long so it can have weight and make the flow aim down (didn't work for me but it does for some). My current dog does it too, but he's a different breed and I'm able to just lift him on the kitchen sink and wash his legs "every" single time. No way that's going in my house w/o a wash!!! Too bad you can't just lift OES' .............it's the only reason it doesn't bother me!!! I have shampoo permanently sitting by the faucet Now my female pees on her back legs now that she is old. I use the biggest mixing bowl I have. Keep her outside... fill with water and mixture of shampoo... put foot in. THEN refill with just water to rinse. Towel dry then she comes in.... but thankfully it doesn't happen much. Good luck. I wish this was talked about "before" I got a male |
All are helpful tips!!! THANKS!!!!!!!at least I know I am not alone. Yes, I am going to let the hair on penis grow a bit and see if it helps, that's the next step. We are using burts Bee waterless shampoo and spray all over his leg but just like you said, the smell just too strong. We also tried to put his leg in water but he hates it, take a lot of efforts to wash it each time he goes out. Never tried the sock idea....I will go see if i can find any material fits!!!!! Also.. if you don't have a bunch of bushes where he pees.. GET THEM!! Our boy never peed like a boy which is a big part of his problem... but when we put in bushes... it really 'helped.' He still pees on his front legs but a lot less in quantity or not at all. I'm referring to my newest boy...not the old one. I think the more you can get them out, walking around, ....and they learn to mark, the better chance they stop being lazy and actually try to aim on a bush/fence/or something. |
Now, do these suggestions work on the "two legged variety"?? xx |
Ha Ha Ha.....glad you found your sense of humor. |
My dogs don't pee on their legs, but that hardly helps you. I do want to add in that it's really not that common. I almost always have males, and we don't have issues at all. I've had dogs in quantities my entire life, and rarely is it an occurrence with any of them. Our current family of dogs are 6 - 5 males, 1 female. No leg peers now either. I saw a white standard poodle at a dog event a couple months ago - and both his front legs were stained down the back from urine....I was so sorry for his family! |
