Still have our monstrosity. DH watches more TV and is in no hurry to replace it. |
It sounds like a win win. |
One of the reasons I got rid of my old tv is that it is getting difficult to dispose of electronics. No longer can we leave tvs, etc. at the curb for the garbagemen. Have to recycle and take it to drop off points. Fortunately I had a friend with a truck who owed me a favor. |

I don't know where you disposed of it, but if you have anything else there is a monthly drop off down by the Kane County building across from the fairgrounds. 2nd Saturday of every month, I think. Open from 8am to 12noon. We end up dropping something off a few times a year. |
Our current (non-flatscreen) TV is still working perfectly. I just have so many other things I'd rather spend the money on, so it's still in use. Look at all the agility, herding, show, etc entries that would be! Now if I had one gifted to me.... |
I have one of the last tube TVs made and I'm in no hurry to get rid of it. It's a Sony WEGA, 34", 16:9 widescreen, 1080i resolution, HD tube TV. BEAUTIFUL picture. WAYYYY better than any of the flat panels. Blacks are black, whites are white, colors are bright & vibrant, no motion blur, no pixelation, and no screen door effect. It was the last of it's kind, and they'll have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands. Or rather off of my cold, dead chest. It weighs 200 lbs (not a typo). I'm hoping the OLED UHD 4K sets will be as good as CRTs. I'll replace mine if they are as good as CRTs, and the price is reasonable. Until then, it's CRT for me. |
We just replaced the big screen in the den - 18 years old and we were hoping for it to go. I love the plug and play for our new TVs. And we can stream from our computers, go online, set up apps for the TV (football scores show up in the corner). We have one CRT TV left, but it will be awhile before it goes. |
We're in the 20th century still. When we moved into this house, we bought a 32 inch tv and felt it was more than big enough for our livingroom. Then we realized all of our neighbors were buying 36 inch tvs for their kids' rooms. Yikes! All of the neighbor kids think my kids are weird for not only sharing bedrooms, but also because they don't have their own televisions and computers. The kids tell me that their neighborhood friends don't have any bookcases in their rooms, or even their houses. In this day and age we are virtually Luddites. |
Amanda, we took it to Best Buy. They take electronics anytime. Bekalm, keep being a Luddite. I'm sad when I go to someone's home and see no bookcases. I'm sad to give up my VCR though. I still have *gasp* VHS tapes..... |

It just occurred to me after reading your post Paula........that with ebooks becoming the norm there will be not much use for bookcases! |
