There's a light at the end of the tunnel

Today I took my Math final, and I'm pretty sure the girl behind me was quietly sobbing. The guy next to me kept sighing heavily. So age has at least one advantage here: Its easier to stuff my feelings aside as I fumble through hyperbola and asymptotes (don't remember what those are? Neither do I.) I have one more test tomorrow, with hope that it will be easier, or at least will tax a different part of my brain.

After tomorrow, I will be free from my own edification until next fall. :yay:

CELEBRATE~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are almost there. Good job!
I'm done! Yay! This had to be one of the hardest semesters I've ever taken. I've had an uptick of at-home problems and responsibilities and I took a class that I finished the prerequisite for well over a decade ago (almost last century). Fingers crossed I did well enough on that Math final to pass the class. I went in hoping not to hurt my GPA and came out of it hoping just to pass. :D Yesterday, I was seriously questioning the wisdom of going back to school Does it really help?

I earned a good grade on my big project for my Anthropology class which felt good. Today, I took the final for that class and it was pretty easy. So, I think going back to school will have a lot of benefits for myself and more importantly my family.

BUT if my kids ever drop out of Math when they are in college (or high school) as young people, I'm going to be so very upset with them. It will hold them back for a very long time and I don't want them to have to catch up on it years later.

Hooray! I'm done!
Congrats to you for hanging in!!! :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:

You deserve a night out!!! 8)
Dan's in Oregon again, so I'll have to wait on the night out. After 4-H tonight, my Math buddy and I are going to see if I have a decent bottle of wine around here.

This weekend, I'm going to stay up much too late, read fiction, drink red wine, and eat Raisinets until my eyes cross. I can hardly wait. :D No text books to read, no homework to do. YAY!
Well... [shoot] (feel free to replace that with stronger words as your imagination allows).

Before the Math final I was .48 points off of a B. I was really OK with having a C in the class, since I know I've struggled a lot and spent an inordinate amount of time on trying to master these ideas. It was a hard class for me. To have almost a B in the class was a really good thing.

I just checked my grades, and to pass the class--regardless of the grade up to the final test--I had to get a C on the final. I did not get a C. Thus, even though I still have a 74% average over the whole class, I did not pass it. To say I am unbelievably disappointed is an understatement. This will ruin my GPA, and frankly, I don't want to have to take a class that for all intents and purposes I technically earned a passing grade on. A C isn't bad in a subject you struggle with, especially when attendance, homework and participation points are all 100%. I'm not strong at testing, so I struggled with the tests, but I averaged 75% on them (it was solidly 75%. Nearly every test was right around there.)

I'm just so incredibly disappointed.
Ugh - that's no fun at all.
I went back to college (twice!) as a married adult with kids. It is so much juggling just to have everyone where they need to be. And yes, I was dredging up decade-old prerequisites too - but it was in Chemistry! What a crazy thing to do....

Now one of my daughters is going back. (Married, with 2 kids, dogs, working, etc). She just had math this semester too. She took it pass/fail, as she hated math and and had bad instructors in HS. She lucked out in college, and got a great teacher who made it all make sense. Her other class was German...and she struggled with it. Liked the teacher, but her teaching style was wacky. Made her wish she was pass/fail for that, and was getting a grade in math instead!
I wish I had a pass/fail option in Math, I would have taken it. I think I would have been OK this term if the last 3 weeks of it hadn't been so stressful all around. I liked my Anthropology class though, the most challenging part was the getting up early.
I'm sorry you had such a hard go with the math this year. I do feel your pain, since I too went to college as an adult, working a full time job and raising 4 children. Don't give up and just keep plugging away. If you take that math class again, and if you get a better grade will they drop the bad grade and replace it with the better grade? Maybe you can ask around and find out if there is a teacher that other students is better in teaching that course. Anyway, enjoy your Summer, you've earned it!
I totally understand the Math struggle! When I went back to school, I had to have a tutor through each of the Math courses   !

When I finished school, I made the decision to teach second grade because the math was single digit and I understood that just fine!!
If I take the class again, it still shows up on the transcript, but the new grade would be the one calculated into the GPA, and the old one would not.

The degree I'm working towards is offered through a different university, and they will accept the lower grade. The downside is that I need the higher grade in order to count as a prerequisite for other classes here, where I'm filling in holes before I join that program. So I have to weigh if I'll save money by taking the class again here, so I can take my other classes here as well, versus using the lower grade at the university but possibly paying more for the same credits there.

Eh. I'm not going to worry about it. I'm going to enjoy the summer and worry about my Math options later.
