The trail was also moved from indoors to an outdoor location because of the flooded facility, this was the first time we had done any agility runs outside. The first run was novice jumpers, Monty ran past two jumps so did not qualify but the jumps he did take he cleared them all which I was pleased about as he knocked bars off in the past. The second run was novice standard. I got a video of this one. He popped the weaves and took the teeter when he shouldn't have. I have to make sure that I have his full attention for future courses that have teeters. About a year ago when we started out Monty had an issue with the teeter, he got really scared on it so we worked on it lots with lots of treats. So now it his favorite obstacle and he will go out of his way to go to it. I need to draw his attention away from it but not make it forbidden. It gave the audience a laugh but he did not qualify. I also forgot a part of the course, my mind was on the teeter incident. Novice Standard Run The third run was novice steeplechase. We made really good time, he did great on weaves but knocked two bars when jumping so took us 2 seconds over the qualifying score. I need to work on the arching jump that Dawn describes. As soon as the barn is dry this is what I am going to concentrate on as he needs clean runs to qualify. Novice Steeplechase The last run was novice gambles, we got 27 points (need 20 on the first part) and completed the gamble so yeah he qualified. Unfortunately I forgot to get a video of this one. We really enjoyed the first day and the people were really friendly and accepting. Monty is so quiet and subdued after his day of activity, I think he is totally pooped. He had some well deserved peanut butter! I look a bit goofy running around with my arms flailing, me and Monty make a good pair. |

Good job! Thanks for sharing this. Great to see and inspiring |
i think he did great thanks for sharing |
Thanks for taking videos....I thought you both did an excellent job...It is obvious that Monty LOVES it!!!!! Keep the videos coming......... |
It is as much training for you and for Monty. Nobody is perfect the first time, probably not even Dawn.....probably. The best part is he loves it and you can continue to train with him and he will get better as you get better. He overcame the teeter, he will conquer the weaves, it just takes time and you making it fun. Good going Team Monty!! Sorry Buster, Newfs excel elsewhere. I remember an agility trial at the park behind me. Novice Great Pyr, took the first jump and announced that was it, no more of that business.......and took off. No, it wasn't my Pyrs. |

No, it wasn't my Pyrs. We had a couple of jumps in the park and a weave to practice two days before the trial. Buster was out there with us and had absolutely no interest in the jumps or the weaves, not at all jealous that the other two dogs where having fun. More interested in getting in the way, eating twigs on the course and barging in when treats were being been handed out. But he sure likes being around the action just not partaking in it |
Great job both of you!!!! |
Quote: More interested in getting in the way, eating twigs on the course and barging in when treats were being been handed out Gotta love the big blacks! Abbott rather liked the food as well, but really loved being brushed. The black sheddy brought back many memories. I swear that dog would point to spots I missed, "Over there, under my arms please." He loved to play with people or other dogs. Never tried him in agility. Pyrs' attitude is "If you want to run around and play with those things, go ahead, I have other things to do." At least Buster has Retriever in his name, Pyrs will retrieve once, then you are on your own the second time, "You threw it, I brought it back, you threw it again. You are on your own." |
Great job! Thanks for sharing! Cindy |
Watching these backwards - saw day 2 first. Oops! Very good job. Monty obviously LOVES agility and you are off to a wonderful start. I'm glad you were outdoors, as it's just more fun, and the video is so much more beautiful! |
