Summer is approaching in Texas, we have had several days right at 90. Winston is suddenly one huge mat! I brush him out and 2 days later it's like I hadnr brushed him in a month! He's either a late bloomer or the heat is making him lose a winter coat! None of our previous OES had a seasonal shed. He spent over 6 hours on the table the last 2 days (3 each day), a slicker brush is my best friend and my shoulders are killing me! Dexter is now our easy groom, I can brush him out in about 30 minutes with a regular All Systems pin brush. (Someone liberated our long pin Hines brushes at a show and their coats are too long for the length pins we have left in Hines) |

Is the color or texture changing? Tiggy didn't get her adult coat till she was over two and there was lots of matting but I noticed the texture changed as well as the color (although not a lot). I also notice that if her coat is a little oily and we get humidity she becomes a matt factory and nothing helps bar an all over bath. Hope things settles down whatever the cause. |
Sounds like Winston is putting in his big boy hairs and doing regular dog shed. Not what you want with OES. Hang in there, once he gets through this transition he should be a lot better. We need to fall down and be grateful they don't do this every year, 2x a year. |
His hair color or texture isn't changing noticeably. I'm putting out an all out effort to keep up with it! The grooming table and tools are staying set up. |
If he is acting ok...then I would agree with everyone's post. If he is a little 'off', you may want to check his thyroid..the first symptom..with my Beardie, Millie was coat change, however, she was about 9 when it happened. |
