Yeah, but repeat this again for a brush out or other such quick procedure so they get used to having others groom them. When I had the dynamic duo, I'd have a groomer who loved OES given them a brush out every few weeks so they got used to being primped. When it came time for the trims, etc, they were perfect and eventually looked forward to their spa days. Who doesn't like a nice massage and warm spa? The little guy needs other socializing now so he doesn't associate the car with the scary place. Trips to a park, doggie bakery, fun things so you can slip a grooming in there once in awhile. |
I agree with Susan, and I wish I had started Amy going to a groomer for simple things, like a brush out, or something quick and not scary. I also wish I had done a better job and asked different questions when interviewing groomers. I've found that yes, its comforting to me if a groomer has experience with a sheepdog, but its much better if a groomer is willing to work with a dog's personality. Like Susan said, get back in the car and go fun places. You should be able to call ahead and slip a visit to the groomer in for a simple hello, too. We take Amy in for a treat and to say hi to the new groomer once a week. She hasn't even been in for any services, yet. She's just going in and checking out the place, getting ear scratchies, a treat, and a "hi there." We're hoping it puts her in a better frame of mind when she goes in for her first visit. |
He went back in the car with out issue. He loves to go pick up the kids from school so when my son needed to be picked up I said lets go get Nick and at the door he was with his bum wagging!! I am going to speak with other groomers and maybe find one that I can drop off to and pick up right when done instead of being put in a kennel that is too small for him. I asked the lady when I picked him up if she offered him treats to calm him and she looked at me like I was nuts... to live and learn... |
Lily hates the groomers (mostly because she hates baths and the forced air dryer) but is always happy to go. That treat and love after from the groomer changes her mind and it becomes the best place ever. She's easy, lol. |
Aw, poor boy! I would definitely call around and see if you can go to visit different groomers. And do it sooner so you can start interviewing and visiting shops. I've learned a very, very painful lesson by choosing the wrong groomer. So I know what it likes to be so disappointed and upset when your sweet puppy is traumatized. I hope he bounces back quickly and happily. He sounds like he is. |
First, and last time, I took Winston to a groomer they called me about an hour later and told me to come get my dog. They would try to dry him but that was all. I went to the shop and he was still in the bathing room, scared and angry. I talked to him while the woman finished bathing him then sat with him through the dry and trim. They politely told me not to bring him back. They love Dexter and he seems to like them. |
