Do you know what a fair price would be from a breeder |
Here in the Midwest, be prepared to spend at least $1,500 - $2,200 for a pup from a breeder who does the desired, basic health testing. The problem these days is, you can't strictly go by price in determining who is a good breeder. Many not-so-ethical breeders are charging similar prices so people think they must be great puppies. Do your homework! Just as an FYI for everyone, I recently heard of an internet scam involving someone desperately wanting to get a puppy quickly. He wasn't well informed on what to look for as far as health testing but had OES previously. The deal was nearly sealed but when this out-of-state "breeder" requested the entire purchase price be sent in advance to Nambia, he quickly saw red flags and ceased communication. As if bad breeders weren't enough now we have to watch out for this! Stick with a trusted breeder. Plenty of recommendations here on the forum from people who have some exceptional dogs. Just ask! |
Thank you ! That is a big help. I see puppy prices between 800-2500 and was just wondering why such a drastic range. We are just looking for a wonderful healthy addition to our family |
I paid $650 for my puppy, and got what I paid for. So far we are on year 6 of numerous health issues (thousands of dollars of vet bills) and behavioral issues( thousands of dollars on training, behaviorists, more vet bills). I cannot recommend enough going with a reputable breeder, regardless of cost. It's money saved in the long run, as well as heart ache and frustration. This breed is prone to things like hip-dysplasia and other diseases; a reputable breeder is breeding for healthy hips, eyes, and temperament. The higher price for a puppy is often covering the expense of putting the breeding male and female through those health checks, making sure your puppy comes from healthy lineage going back more than just the current generation. I would suggest buying from a breeder you like, and not looking at the dollar amount on the check you write. The money you invest now in a healthy, well-bred puppy will save you both money and grief down the road! |
Thank you for all the answers . It has been very helpful |
Two of our members have just had puppies. You should talk to them. And they have posted pics of both litters. Gracie is mom to one litter and Bond is proud pappa to a litter as well. |
Do you no what breeders those are? |
I know Gracie's litter is through Blueshire kennels; I'm not sure Bond's. |
Thank you. I don't think she has any available |
Bond is a Masquerade OES, and the litter of his is out in Portland, OR. Cherish is from Snowdowne - in WA. Snowdowne has a website, and there is contact info about the litter on the site. I have some photos in my album - click on the camera link. The photos after the puppy pictures are Bond, from a recent show. Good luck in your puppy search. |
