Another scary antic

Drez darned near gave us all heart attacks tonight.

As you know, she's pretty gimpy, and the stairs are not her best friends. But whenever we're all upstairs, she insists on trudging up the stairs to be with us. Even though she comes up very slowly, she can still come up. But once upstairs, unless someone is there with her, she will absolutely not go down, thankfully.

After my daughter and I came home tonight, we both came upstairs to work/play on our computers. About 15 minutes later, my husband came up to his office to turn off his computer and close up shop for the day. Sure enough, pretty soon we hear the clunking of Drez's feet plodding her way up the steps. Our staircase comes up 7 steps, has a landing, turns 90 deg and comes up another 6 steps. She made it to the landing and was coming up the top stairs. She made it to the last step, and either she lost her balance or her back legs gave out, but whatever the reason, down she fell all the way back to the landing! We all started screaming and ran down to her. She had a look on her face like - What happened?, but you could tell she was a bit upset because she kinda growled when Sarah went to help her up. Dale helped her back up the steps, and I rubbed her hips and shoulders and gave her bunches of hugs and kisses. Now she's peacefully sleeping beside me, like nothing ever happened, God bless her!

One of these days, this dog will break my heart.

Oh Chris, how scary! Im glad that Drezzie is okay!! I know what you mean about the broken heart thing....I just dont even want to imagine that inevitable.....
Oh, no, Drez! I'm so glad she's okay. Give her a skritch and a hug from me.
Poor Drez! Poor Chris!! Glad she's okay!!
Geez Drez! Between you and Clyde we're all going to be on Nitroglycerin pretty soon!. Take it easy and make sure you get some extra massages tonight.

You know I would love to see old Drez and old Norman get together. Do you think they'd sit around swapping stories about the good old days?
Mandy, isn't it awful watching our beloved babies age and become increasingly infirm? I'm sure Norman was too, but Drez was always SO active, ready to play at the drop of a hat, racing around the house. It's so hard watching her like this, but as long as I see the light in her eyes, we continue like this. I cringe when I see her struggle to stand up, though. But just mention the word "bye-bye" or "swimming" and up she gets, ready to go! It's amazing and sad all at the same time.
Chris
They truly are awesome creatures. It is hard to watch them get older and have a hard time doing even the smallest things but what amazing love they give to us!

Norman is still much the same dog he always was. Goofy, rolling on his back all four legs kicking madly in the air. When he's done he sits up really fast and looks at us to make sure we're checking out his rocked out hairstyle.

Just when I think he's getting too old to be around much longer he does something to amaze me. The other day he wouldn't come inside for anything, just kept plodding walking at his old dog pace, one slow step at a time. But, when I told the other dogs to go inside for biscuits, guess who was right there in a flash? Goofy dogs.
