In the same show last summer that we did weight pull (see other post), Bond debuted in rally obedience. In UKC rally, like AKC rally, there are 3 levels: AKC - Novice, Advanced, Excellent. UKC - Rally 1, Rally 2 , Rally 3. They match up pretty closely, so Novice is like Rally 1, etc. Novice and Rally 1 are on lead, and the others are OFF lead, include jumps, etc. He got a qualifying score in Rally 1 - a 99 (out of 100). Super proud of him! Then in February, I entered him twice, and he finished his Rally 1 title (need 3 qualifying scores of at least 70 points) with scores of 95 and 93. This past weekend, we had a competition that offered weight pull and rally. Hmmmm, could I get him ready to compete off lead and try Rally 2??? I decided to be crazy and go for it. We practiced this past month, and he really seemed to get it, in fact liked off lead a LOT! The event had 2 trials per day, so I entered all 4. Figuring that gave us one extra in case we screwed up! To get a qualifying score, you need to have at least 70 points out of 100 when you are done with the course. Saturday - Trial 1....I screwed up.Not Bond - me! I did a 360 turn right instead of a left...and in UKC that is an automatic NQ. Oh crap, didn't want to burn my extra one like that. Trial 2 - all went well, we got a 96! Sunday - Trial 1 - all went well again, we got a 98 and 3rd place in our class...yay! Trial 2 - we did well again, got a 97 and 2nd place in our class...yay!! That was our title!! Our title picture (just on my phone) with the judge on Sunday: We both (Bond and I) look a little rumpled, as we were doing weight pulls as well all day. I was so proud of him - doing weight pull and off lead obedience in rally like a pro....so proud of my 2 year old! These are his ribbons from the weekend - his 2 pulls earning him his UWP weight pull title on the left, and his 3 rally wins and earning his URO2 title! (United Rally Obedience 2). Our next competition is in 2 weeks, back to AKC conformation. We are heading out to WI to Manitowoc, and working towards his Grand Champion title. And then 2 weeks after that, it's agility with Chewie....fair's fair and equal opportunity for all. |
