Weekend weight pull

We have had a LONG absence from weight pull. I don't travel long distances to pulls like some people, and also have to juggle my working weekends and other competition schedules: herding, conformation shows, agility and rally. Just not enough time...or $$! Our last weight pull we did was last July, and only did one day (one pull) out off the weekend.

These are pulls through UKC. Chewie has his UWPCH - he is a weight pull champion. He's accumulating points (slowly, as we hardly enter!) towards his Ch Excellent title.
Bond had only done one pull - the one in July. He is going for his basic title - the UWP - United Weight Puller. This is a very obtainable title, as they just need to pull 8 times their weight, and do this 3 times. Bond weighs 85 pounds, so he only needs to pull 680#. In his 1st pull last summer, he pulled 1010#, and I stopped him at that. He was younger, and wanted to end with him doing well.

Chewie:

He weighed in at 73 pounds.
Saturday Chewie pulled 1346# and that is 18.44% - or 18 times his weight.
On Sunday he pulled 1494# and that is 20.47%, or 20 times his weight.
To put it in perspective - his personal best ever pull was 2324#, in his prime. He's almost 8 now, and pulls less, but still very respectable pulls. :clappurple:

Bond:
I don't have a photo of Bond this time yet - I know there were some taken. But here is one from July in his 1st pull:

He weighed in at 85 pounds.
Saturday he pulled 1198# and that is 14.09%, or 14 times his weight.
On Sunday he really, really got it, and was whining with anticipation when he was on deck and the dogs before him were pulling. 8)
He pulled 1790# for 21.06%, or 21 times his weight!
He definitely surpassed the 8 times his weight needed for his UWP title. :excited:

...and I'm happy for Bond, but kind of sad for Chewie, as Bond surpassed Chewie on Sunday.... a bit like the changing of the guard. One's career, climbing, while the other is tapering. :|

Lee (Vance) had a decal offer awhile back, where the 1st 5 people to respond he would send an OES decal he made. We had just repainted our groups' pull cart last summer, and we wanted some representation of all the different breeds we have who pull. And we have variety - Papillons, Chinese Cresteds, all the way to labs, pitties, and Great Danes! Our hosts are the Samoyed and St Bernard clubs, so they are on the cart body. Our host club for events is usually the MN Mixed Breed Club, and we have their decal on it.
I "won" one of the decals, and it was to go on our cart. So Sunday morning before we pulled, I put it on. :go:

:roses: Go OES!! :roses:

They each received 2 qualifying pull ribbons:

:high5: Great job and congratulations Chewie, Bond and Dawn! :clappurple:

Cindy
Very nice!

I can see where it would be hard watching Chewie's weight pull career slowing down while Bond's is just starting.
How great for both of them! It's tough seeing Chewie taking it easier, but as long as he's having fun. And it sounds like Bond is really "catching the fever!"
Great job! :cheer: :cheer:
Nice job for both of them :cheer: :cheer:

It is hard when we see signs that our dogs are aging. :?
Great job guys!!! The weight pulls amaze me with their brute strength 8O

The passing of the torch from bro to bro. Bond has some mighty big paw prints to fill though. Chewie is an all around Olympian in so many things.
Thanks guys!
I still feel sad for Chewie, I'm just a mushy dog mom I guess. His Samoyed buddy Gabby is still going strong in pulls. Gabby is 6 months older than Chewie. But Chewie is really rocking agility, and of course LOVES his therapy dog visits...so he's still a very happy camper. :D
Gabby's genes make him pull. Chewie is also falling back to his heritage, listening and following instructions.....agility. When it comes right down to it, no matter how hard a worker, how buff he is, Chewie is just a softy people dog at heart  He has surely rewritten the book on what sheepdogs can and cannot do......let me think on the cannots......... :lmt: Has Tod tried him hunting?? Don't know how good a pointer Chews would be w/o a tail.
No hunting for him! I never get his coat that short, that he would not come home in disaster status!

Now my GSD Jenny was a good hunter with Todd, she went right along with the "real" hunting dogs. :)

Chewie...Bond...Dawn....you guys are AMAZING~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ :high5:   :high5:
When MO was shaved down to greyhound status......since she insisted on paddling thru the irrigation water and running the sprinklers......she could go into a "Point" when she spotted a feral cat.......her stub tail was just perfect for the look. The raised paw was in anticipation of running down the cat......or the feral rabbits.

No hairy coat on a hunt! Kdog is bad enough right now rolling in the winter dead lawn.......I just recharged camera if she does it again.
