The shelter own has a pit in quarantine because the [bad guys] were using two males to breed a female. The owners are drug dealers south of town. The males fought and then one bit one of the guys, so he shot it. Pit has two bullets in him, numerous wounds from the dog fight. The Vet would not put the dog down and send the head to Austin for rabies exam. The shelter owner can't stand it anymore, so is taking the dog in for treatment today. Turns out he is a nice pit, he scampered right to it a dog bed and snuggled in. He's a sweet dog, but he does not have a chance with the [bad guys] who own and breed these dogs. The shelter owner is going after those folks, which in my book is not very smart. They are all protected by law inforcement here, as they as someone important's cousin. The asst DA is willing to help, but what can they do if the Sheriff's dept will not back them up? The last time something similar happened the State Police handled it. This is down right abuse of animals, allowing them to fight, then shooting them, purposely putting two males together with a female in heat. The shelter owner has already told several involved that he/she is out to get them. I told the shelter owner to get the newspaper involved or else risk getting shot some day. |

Wow... I'm glad someone is willing to take charge, altough messing up with dealers may not lead to good consequences. Hopefully the newspaper will want to get involved in this. Kudos to anybody wo stands up for this kind of things! |
How awful... poor things... pitbulls are already illegal here... so there is a lot going on to do with them, anyone who owns one already is allowed to keep it, but no one is allowed to breed them anymore, and no one is allowed to get another one. (I may be wrong on the details, I haven't really looked into it a lot but hear about it a lot) (I'm just reading up on it now out of curiosity, and if anyone else is curious the link to the official info is here: http://www.attorneygeneral.jus.gov.on.c ... ubsfty.asp ) |
Wow- what a horrible situation. You could also have your friend talk with the local tv news media- It is amazing how much the news media likes a good "corruption" story- and the whole drug dealer/local sheriff thing sounds pretty fishy. Maybe they could use the whole "investigative" reporting thing to their advantage. But I agree with Saul- trying to deal with criminals when there is no law enforcement backing you up- BIG TIME SCARY!!!! I hope they and those poor dogs stay safe...

That poor dog and brave shelter owner for trying to do what is right.
There is a lot of illegal dog fighting going on all over North America. As it's "underground" the average public is not even aware of it. Many family pets are stolen and dogs given away free, as used as bait dogs ..to get the fighting dogs in a frenzy before the fight. It's out there...but what can we do? I scan the papers and let people know of these activities if they have their dog listed for free, tell them to check out via personal trip to the home if someone is interested in their pet. As for this story ..I can't believe the cruelty that continues for these poor dogs. Lets hope someone takes and interest in this story..via the media. Marianne and the boys |
