So what would the ramifications be of using the UK version of Frontline versus the US version? Is there a significant difference that I'm missing? |
|
They are exactly the same, the only difference in what I bought is the weight is listed in kg instead of lbs on the box. The math works out that the active ingredients are the same per dose. |
My vet told me that frontline doesn't work well against fleas any longer. They have built up a resistance to it. |
I don't use either. But, at the vet yesterday for Harley the basset's dental, I saw that there is a new chewable out by the makers of Frontline. It's for ticks and fleas. Those little pests do mutate and the drugs always need to change to kill them. They are survival experts, unfortunately. |
I hadn't heard that about frontline. That's a bummer. Can I hope that regionally our local fleas aren't resistant yet? |
You can try the oral flea med Comfortis. I have the boys on it and it works well. It does not, however, protect against ticks. My vet stopped carrying Frontline once it became available OTC. They're now recommending Vectra, but nobody I know seems to have any experience with it. |
I use Frontline and it still works around here. Cindy |
We use revolution. It is a flea, tick and heart worm preventive. |
The frontline combo kills flees whilst still in egg form rather than Frontline which waits for them to hatch and has to bite our vet said. Frontline is better for fox mange and Advocate is better for flees and lice-it also does heart worm and lice but doesn't do tape worm so you need an extra for them if use Advocate.xx |
This year I got the best, coolest, most amazing thing EVER! It's a collar. I can't tell you about the price because I was way too excited, I had to get two and it was mixed in with other things but I remember the vet telling me it was about equal to me buying the wet, icky, sticky, shoulder hair mess up gook. It is new, the vet was waiting for me to come in! It is waterproof, you get the weight to fit your dog, safe to chew if an accident happens (not advisable though), lasts the year. I can't do chewables, Skye is allergic. Can't stand the sloppy mess of the other. This you just put on and your done for the year. AMAZING! Steel because of weight gain has to use the messy stuff but as soon as he grows up I am switching. So, so happy with this. Oh, and the vet gave me a rebate so I got $20 off! Hehe. I just woke Sonny up to get the name.....It isn't on the collar, just the serial number. They came in metal tins. I will check back, if anyone is interested I will call my vet and get the name. |
That sound great idea, wonder if available in the UK. I do have a variety of "spot on's" at the moment as Sue gave me hers to use up. Does it work on all flees, lice, worms and ticks? Sprocket get horrid little flies on his legs sometimes from the fields and then chews at fur so I get the brush out. Do they have to bite? to good to be true!!xx |
I called the vet, The name is Seresto. No they do not have to bite. Kills fleas and ticks. Doesn't say lice and not labeled for worms. She said shoulder gook isn't either....They are trying to get it labeled as such but isn't yet. I asked if was available in UK and she didn't know. |
