do cats go over the bridge too?

Sad to say we lost our lovely little cat Teddy on Monday. He was 17 yrs old. He had been ill for sometime.
He had been losing weight for a while so we had a full blood work done in April. Everything came back fine.
Then in September we had teeth work done as he broke a front tooth off and another was rotten. It was a big op for a little old man. We also got a growth removed from his back and tested for Cancer. It came back negative. By December he was still losing weight and drinking loads. The vets had him for a week while we were away and did more bloods for Kidney and diabetes but again these came back negative. When we got home we noticed he had lost a lot of weight, in only a week. The Vet told us to put him on a high protien diet and he went on a special cat food for elderly cats. But as the months went on things were still not right. He still lost weight despite eating like crazy and drinking like mad. We de-wormed him for the second time in two months a couple of weeks back but he went off his food and started to throw up. We were quite alarmed at this and wisked him back to the Vet. The Vet said it was not the De-wormer (sigh of relief ) as the last thing I wanted to do was make the wee man worse. But he was still losing weight despite everything. The Vet did another Bood test and this time the thyroid came back positive. By this time Teddy had been acting weired and licking the fireplace for ash????? I tried to figure what was wrong on the net and some answers said they were comming to the end of their lives when they started to do that? Anyhow the Vet gave Teds tablets for the thyroid but said his heart was skipping/ galloping with a murmor and so felt there was more going on. We took him home for two weeks as agreed on the thyroid pills. He started to put on weight and act more like himself. He even had a spring in his step. I was pleased and thought everything was improving. But then on Monday morning before the follow up Vet appointment I noticed a few weird things happening again. Teddy ran headlong into the baby gate - like he didn't really know where he was going. Then when he was drinking I noticed he had his paws in the water? He never did that as he hated getting wet? Anyhow we put him in his crate and took him to the pre-arranged follow up appointment. I thought the Vet would be pleased with his progress. But when he examined him he told us the heart was worse and that it was failing. He told us teddy would not last the week. (Maybe the heart not working right was causing him to be a bit disphasic? - lack of o2 to the brain which maybe explained the weired feet in water etc!) We were very upset. But DH ( dear hubby) has had two heart attacks so he knows how painful that is. We reluctantly said our goodbyes to our old friend. He died very fast. The Vet said that was because of the galloping irregular heart. It was litterally seconds. Not like when our Oes Murphy was put to sleep. It took forever for his heart to stop with him because the heart was working very slowley as he had heart cancer. So it took ages for the drug to go round his body. He was asleep so he didn't know anything but still I was shocked how quick Teddy left us. I really didn't have time to get my head round it, as I left the house feeling positive and not even entering the thought Teddy would not be comming home again.
The house is so empty. Our OES pup Bailey has been scowering the house looking for him everywhere. It is very odd not to have a paw trying to drag food off my dinner plate! We miss Teddy very much indeed. - It is such a painful process when a pet you love dies.
Teddy

Passed away 3rd MArch 2014.

I'm so sorry about Teddy. Orange kitties are my favorite. If dogs cross the bridge, then kitties also go over. All our beloved creatures that have gone before us are up there playing together in the sunshine and waiting for us.
Sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved Teddy.
Helen, they must cross the bridge. Dogs have to chase something, don't they?

Teddy was a cutie, huh? I love when cats sit like that. Makes them look very comfortable with their surroundings - enough to relax to that level.

God speed Teddy, God speed buddy.

Vance
I am sorry. He had a fantastic life but it still makes parting no easier. Of course he is over the Bridge, but there is no chasing or arguments over there just peace and love.......happy dreams Teddy xxx
I'm so so sorry. I lost 2 eighteen year old cats about 3 years ago. Even after a good long life like Teddy had, it's so hard to say goodbye.

I do believe cats go to the bridge. In fact, I'm sure that they are quite disgusted at the dogs they have to hang out with there. You helped free your Teddy from pain and the confusion he was going through at the end. It takes a lot of love to be able to be that strong. :hearts: :ghug: :hearts:
I think my beloved Siamese cat is at the bridge with his buddies Morf the kelpie and Caesar the Dalmatian.

It was very hard to lose my baby to cancer at 16 and I still miss him.

I'm sorry for your loss. Wishing you a peaceful heart and happy memories. :ghug:
I think they do. I'm so sorry for your loss.
So very very sorry for your loss. Teddy looks like he 'ruled'. I am quite certain that kitties do cross the bridge and have a fine time aggravating the dogs.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss of sweet Teddy. Orange cats are one of my favs. Pearl passed away at 17 yrs old it will be 2 yrs at the end of this month. I know what you mean by how empty the house feels when you lose your pet, it is hard to get your brain around it. Take care of yourself.
Thanks for all the lovely messages and kind words.
We really miss Teddy very very much.

Teddy was a rescue - as most of our animals have been. We lost our previous cat SukI Yamma age about 15yrs. So we were looking another. DH (Dear Hubby) Went to the Cat rescue and found a lovely grey cat he liked the look of. But it turned out that she was having kittens so we would have to either weight until they were weened to bring her home or act as foster care givers for the new family until the Kittens could go back to the shelter for re-homing. With all this in our heads we returned to the shelter to have a good look at her. We didn't mind all the work because we loved cats. When we were looking into her cage suddenly a flash of Orange cought our eyes in the cage next door. DH said ohhhhhhh isn't he lovely! He looked a bit lost - DH said he didn't notice him before so maybe he had been asleep. Now we had a problem? DH was playing with the cat through the screen when the lady came and said do you want to get him out? She let him out and he went straight up DH and clung to his shoulder. I looked at all the orange fur comming out all over DH's new black top. I said if you get that one your clothes will be like that forever! The cat was purring like mad in DH's ear and holding on to him. DH looked so happy. We didn't know what to do as we had already expressed an interest in the other pregnant cat and we just couldn't take both. His name is Pier the lady said. We went home and decided to think about it. We still didn't know what to do so DH went for a walk. He phoned me and asked ok which one love? I saw the look in his eyes when he had the orange fur ball attached! I didn't know. He said ok we should toss a coin. So on the end of the phone I struggled to find a coin. I tossed it and DH said Heads for Orange tails for grey! It landed on heads!!!!!!!!! SO we went back to the shelter and told them we wanted the orange cat. We didn;t like the name Pier much - so I thought Heads for Teds! And Teddy became ours. The only thing I did say to DH as we left the centre was don't be getting too attached to the cat as we have a very busy road outside our door! That was over 16 yrs ago! We later heard the other grey cat had died. She had complications with the pregnancy and something inside went very wrong! They had to put her to sleep, and none of the babies survived. God is good in the end we got the right cat! DH and Teddy have been inseperable eversince so much so he got the nickname velcro cat! He was still perminantly attached 16 yrs later!
Always attached to DH's shoulder!
As for being king of the house! deffinately
Teddy on the throne! lol :)
EVERYBODY GOES!!!!!!!! 8)
