We had our first official APDA pull this past weekend. Of course, Benson competed! On the second run, she decided to be a statue - a usual. Hubby couldn't get her to move an inch until after time ran out. Since we had a light field of competitors (it was very cold!) we let her take a few more runs, and by the fourth run, she was actually pulling pretty well again. So, not enough officially to get her first leg, but better than she's been doing in competition. I'm still proud! She only does this in competition. In practice, she pulls really well! And the organization awarded it's first title this weekend! (We have one title - Pulling Dog Novice - that can be earned in a single competition. The rest have to be earned over multiple events.) All in all, not a bad weekend! |

It sounds like it was fun, which is what is important. |
Go Benson! Sounds fun! |
Is she intimidated by the extra people? Well, as long as she enjoys herself, titles are secondary. |
As long as you are both having fun!!!!!!! Keep us posted on your progress..... |
Even though we're at the same facility and on the same equipment that we use for practice, she really senses the difference. It might be the clipboard and timer people are holding, or even the subtly different vibe in the holding area. She is improving. We've made a lot of progress over the last 6-8 months, but clearly we haven't found the thing that really flips her switch. |
I missed this - and hoping Benson gets over her stage fright. It happens, and takes time and effort to overcome. |
