I find that keeping them in a semi long coat that I don't want them touched or messed. Am I weird(er than normal)? |
|
I get REALLLL upset. I know it's absurd, so I don't even think about saying something. They are just being normal and wanting to rub that "oomph" (volume) down... I just hold my breath and try not to look, so I don't let the bad thoughts sink in. My husband does this to my kids. UGH!!! I perfectly do their hair, and he instantly gives the boys the hand on the head.. pat them and make the boy's hair shaggy (instead of parted) and the girls have their hair put up just perfect (and they don't have much, so it easily comes out). SOO pissed. Even more if you are showing, I'm sure. My lagotto doesn't have a lot of hair compared to an OES, but right before our show... I had at least 10 people take both hands and rub the hair down (flattening it out) to give him kisses. I wanted to DIEEEEE!! |
It only bothers me at dog shows... You'd think most would know... AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Vance |
I have to bite my tongue at events (mostly therapy dog stuff, but sometimes at shows) when people really swirl and tangle/knot up the coats. I just cringe inwardly. My guys are so good with people, I hate to interrupt any of the great PR work they do. |
YES!!! omg, it drives me nuts!!! It's usually my husband that does it. We've had arguments over it! Last night my trainer (who happens to also be a groomer) tried to convince me to let her trim around lily's eyes after she messed up her piggy tails. (Lily is in the awkward "I cant see but top knots do not stay in too well" stage) I said no and told her lily is working on being in full coat, that includes a top knot and redid her hair. She is not a blingy/glitzy/glamour groomer, practicality is her thing. Basic top knots are even too girly for her. I'm a little bit more candid with people now that I'm pregnant because people just chalk it up as hormones. |
Vance wrote: It only bothers me at dog shows... You'd think most would know... AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Vance Like "Best In Show" where Jane Lynch gives Hubert the Bloodhound a nice rough pet? Though it certainly didn't mess his hair the way it does our sheepies! |
Omg yes!!! My dad used to fuss bloo up like that I kept telling him not to so now he pats but when we go out and people start messing his fur up and stroking it the wrong way etc i really want to pull their hands off it drives me insane!!!!!! |
Yes--it is a cringe moment when out and about and so many people want to mess up the hair! Especially when they pull and mess with the top knot! |
AGREE!!!!! |
You lot have OCD |
sheepiezone wrote: Yes--it is a cringe moment when out and about and so many people want to mess up the hair! Especially when they pull and mess with the top knot! Agreed! Because we are the ones who have to re-do it! I have a gf who is a hairstylist that thinks if she French braids Ramseys hair on his head, it will stay longer. Might have to try it! |
While grooming for a show and on the way to the ring nobody wants someone even brushing up against their dog accidentally. When finished showing for the day I actually enjoy having people loving on my dogs. If they ask permission first. It's great socialization for the dogs and the people get such a kick out of being allowed to touch them. Fun to see how well-mannered both kids and adults are too. Hey, they have to be brushed regularly so why not use the opportunity to educate people about the breed? |
Monty's fur gets messy so quickly after I have brushed him, from running around that I don't worry about it but I can imagine it must be very frustrating at shows when you have the dog all perfect and they get messed up. I enjoy watching people cuddling and fusing with Monty too because I see they enjoy it and Monty also enjoys the attention. |

Within half an hour of brushing her out and getting her gorgeous you can't tell that I spent all that time grooming her. She's just really good a being a piggy Tiggy. Yesterday I redid her top knot and face and she waited till I turned my back and went straight to her Dad and rubbed her face up and down the side of the sofa he was sitting on. By the time I turned around her muzzle hair on the left was sticking straight up and you couldn't see her eyes. Why do I bother?! |
LOL ^^ Yuki ALWAYS drove me crazy with the rubbing her face on the sofa RIGHT after I brushed her or put a topknot in.. Seems like my boys don't mind topknots and never did that though. I used to block the couch with my legs and follow her around a bit JUST so she wouldn't mess up the topknot so soon |
After a 3-hour bath & brush session last night, Benson spent almost 5 hours today at the front entrance to Tractor Supply doing her "meet & greet" duties. She had more than 100 people loving on her pretty much the whole time. (I know it was more than 100 because we ran out of giveaways, and they were 1 per family.) At one point she was flat on her back with one little boy giving her the belly rub of her life, and both of them loving every second of it! I just kept thinking of this thread, and chuckling to myself. |
Way to go Benson! Such a lovely OES Ambassador Parwaz wrote: You lot have OCD I totally have OCD, but I love when people love on my babies, who love the attention. We have a "comb & cuddle" session every night anyway. |

Might have to try it! I tried French braiding Benson's hair, but it would fall out too quickly, especially when she was clean. This has become my favorite 'do: It looks complicated, but it's really just ponytails. One right in the middle up front, then split that one in half and just do ponytails up each side. When you get to the back of the circle, just do one last pony to gather the two sides together. What makes it look really special (and braided) is tucking a ribbon around it. And it lasts until I take it out - I've never had it pull or fall out yet. |
That looks fantastic!! Tiggy struggles to sit still for one measly topknot, I can't imagine even managing to get half way thru the braiding. |
Love her hair....Oh someday I might have to get a female OES just to justify doing fun hair. I always did great designs with hair when my (human) girls were growing up. But with male OES, we get crap from some just with plain topknots! |

Look at the ponytail!" |

I like getting a smile or a laugh, it makes peoples happy and fortunately we have not had criticism for Monty's girly do, Canadians are polite |
^^^^^ The other evening I was out walking Tiggy and passed a guy up the road who was out front tidying his yard. Whenever I see him he always looks really grumpy and won't look my way or say Hello. This time he still didn't say hello but as I walked past I saw him look at Tiggy's top knot and face and heard him say under his breath 'cute'. I had to not laugh out loud but as I'd gone past and he couldn't see I had a big smile about it. |
even makes grumpy's day, love it |
Had to revisit this, as we had an "episode" yesterday. Our therapy dog group was doing a visit at the YMCA, for the after school youth program. I love this visit, as they are a bunch of fun elementary aged kids. I took Bond and Chewie, and we had 8 dogs from our chapter attending, for the roughly 30 kids. Well, all the rowdy boys just loved happy and wiggly 2 yr old Bond, and all his abundant coat! They were rumpling with both arms buried in him, and swirling and shouting and had a whole pack of them going to town.... I was somewhat joking with one of the staff, that I should have handed out a brush as well.... There are some photos, and all the other dogs have calm kids, nicely stroking them...... |
Energetic boy magnet effect???? otherwise known as Bond and his boisterous boy buddies |
Mim wrote: Energetic boy magnet effect???? otherwise known as Bond and his boisterous boy buddies I guess! And our next visit that we have scheduled is the youth reading program at the public library..... |
I predict less reading and more shenanigans!! |
Russ and Buster go the library and young kids read to Buster. Some of the kids try to stick their fingers up Busters Nose, or shoving their hands in his mouth, but mostly good. Buster doesn't do anything, just looks up at Russ to check if it is okay. One little kid has taken a real liking to Buster, he reads the book to him, shows him the pictures and at the end of each page he pats Buster on the head. He waits for Buster to arrive so he can read to Buster specifically over other dogs. This week Buster fell asleep on his side and was snoring, I'd taken him on a long walk so he wouldn't be shifty. Russ had to wake him up because the kid was concerned he was bored with his reading. |
I think the worst culprit for tangling Leonard's hair is my husband, he rubs Leonard head in circles tangling the hair . He thinks it is ridiculous when I complain but he has never brushed Leonard before (unless you count that time the tentatively went over his outer coat with a slicker bush for a total of 2 minutes). Whenever we go out I have a pin brush and sometimes a slicker brush in my bag for him because he is a people magnet. When I take him to school he gets a little recess brushing especially of his head and ears. It's not OCD it's mat prevention. That and he looks so pretty when he is fluffy! As for the top knot, we did them last year and everybody thought he was a female (he is a small dog to begin with). The other day I couldn't find an elastic but had a butterfly clip so I used that. So many comments! |
