I'm Crystal, 22 years old, and have a 2 1/2 year old male OES named Bentley. I absolutely adore him (of course) and wish I had room for another sheepie. I also have a shelter dog that is a mixed breed and Bentley's best bud. I have a small horse farm with 9 horses. I teach riding lessons, train, and have a small breeding program (though I keep the babies for myself, lol). I'm moving next month to a 65 acre farm and might have to get Bentley some sheep when we get out there with more room I have a lot of questions and I'm sure I'll learn a lot from everyone. Look forward to meeting all of you! Where are the majority of the members located? Any southeast people? Here is Bentley and his friend (she's still fairly new and doesn't have a name yet) before and after his summer shave down. I'm not sure how to just paste a pic into the post, but here are a couple of links: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v99/d ... 99X400.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v99/d ... ec9c77.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v99/d ... 43X400.jpg |

Welcome! Bentley is adorable and he and the other doggie look like great friends! I recently adopted my first sheepdog and I'm just loving getting to know the breed and all the people on this board. I think if you get the big farm with sheep, alot of people will want to come visiting. . . |
Valerie,
Your baby is gorgeous! I'd love to meet some other sheepdog owners in person. So far I've never even saw another sheepdog in person besides Bentley (well, I saw his parents and littermates when I first got him). He tries to herd everything around here...I think he'd like to have his own mini herd of sheep. |
Hi Crystal,
Welcome to the forum! Bentley is adorable, he looks like a sheepie would love herding sheep. Our guy is a gentleman these days, reluctant to leave the air conditioning! Maybe we need to get some sheep to get him motivated to exercise more! Best of luck with your new farm, that's awesome! What type of horse do you breed? It's great to have you on board, I just started riding again last year after a long hiatus. Its really more fun now, learning alot about horse care in addition to riding. Have fun reading the threads, theres lots of information and a great group of OES.org members to assist you! |
Welcome to the board and welcome to spending countless hours of time that you should be doing work and other things but instead are on the forum! I love the pics and I'm glad to see my Clyde isn't the only dog who gets dirty!

Welcome Valerie. I have a horse (Bob the Wonder Pony) but no sheepie. Yet. Someday I will. You have the best of both worlds--dogs and horses! |
Let me toss a "Welcome!" in here too!
[tossing] Welcome! |
Paula O. wrote: Welcome Valerie. I have a horse (Bob the Wonder Pony) but no sheepie. Yet. Someday I will. You have the best of both worlds--dogs and horses! I think this message is probably for Crystal since I have a sheepdog and a cat (but my brother has horses). |
Welcome Crystal & Bentley!!
I agree with Valerie! If you move to a big farm and have some sheep, I've got two sheepdogs that love to travel and would really like a chance to herd some sheep! (Of course, they've never actually tried it, but running and chasing anything is fun for them! ) Your babies are beautiful!! What kind of horses do you raise? |
Thanks everyone for the welcome. I wish I had some good "clean" pics of Bentley. The dogs have a little pool in the backyard and are forever bounding in and out of it and getting filthy. And then combine that with playing in the horse pastures, lol. I need to take a pretty one of him after he's been groomed.
To those who asked, I have a mixed bag of horse breeds. However, I currently only breed Paint horses. I have 4 of those right now, 2 mares and 2 fillies. I also have 2 Rocky Mtn. Horses, 2 miniature horses, and 1 grade (mixed breed) horse. I love breeding, raising, and training my own horses. I just started one of my fillies undersaddle this year (she's 2). She did perfectly, and I'll start riding her next year. I'm currently working on my Non-Profit IRS application. When I get moved, I plan to start a horse rescue. Zahra, that's great that you're riding again! Best of luck with that. I have several pics of the ponies at my website. www.dogwoodvalleyfarm.net And to those of you with travel-loving dogs, I'm going to have plenty of room! lol. I'm actually going to offer camping for people to come and ride and stay in their RV's or horse trailers. I guess I can also offer it for sheepdogs who want to herd! |
What beautiful horses and Bentley is gorgeous! I grew up on a farm and we had horses too. I REALLY miss riding, haven't been in years. I'm in the SE too in Mississippi.
Welcome to the forum, Crystal! |
Awww he looks so handsome after his hair cut!
Welcome to the forum |
Welcome Crystal & Bentley! |
Welcome!
I'm in the north South--Virginia! (We still say y'all and all y'all here, though!) I know Barney would love to run and chase sheep... |
Welcome Crystal & Bently. We all have plenty of questions also; and answers. All are free and show great concern of all the members for one another. Best wishes.
Maggie, Barney, George (in order of descending authority). |
Welcome to the forum. I am also in the SE, Alabama to be exact. Guess that makes us practically neighbors. Now that I have you on one State bordering us and JakobandBrandonsmom on the other, maybe we could look into getting together sometime. |
Hi Crystal,
Welcome to you and Bentley and his little brother too. What's his name? I'm Marianne from Canada and mom to lots of furballs and 2 upright boys. 3 canines..Merlin, Panda and Blue and felines, Mama Kat, Daisy, Lil Girl and Paris..plus a bunny and ginea pig too. If I lived on a farm I'd probably have horses too. I loved your photos and especially like the one of Bentley and his brother! Welcome and I'm sure you'll find this a friendly place to visit as you've discovered by all the warm greetings. Marianne and the boys |
Welcome Crystal! Your dogs are adorable You're so young to have accomplished so much, good for you! |
Welcome, Crystal and Bentley! Even though there are plenty of members here on the forum, I don't think it's unusual for any of us to be the only sheepie owners in their own immediate area. Just not a breed you see too often, but heaven only knows why - they're the best!
Bentley is just TOO cute, and how lucky he is to have all that acreage to run around on. Be prepared to become addicted to this site, the definitive home for any and all questions sheepie. Looking forward to more pics and stories! Chris Mom to Drezzie |
