Elderly dogs passing gas.

Pirate is 10, and passes the "stankiest" gas! He eats Iams Senior food and canned green beans. His poos are very healthy looking, but his gas could kill small birds. Any suggestions what food to move him to? Thanks :wag:

Read the Iams label. Something there isn't working.......yeah and it could also be the green beans. I always got room clearing "boompsers" when the dogs(especially the sheepdogs) were fed soybean meal. Corn, wheat, beet extract might also be to blame. You'll have to try an elimination routine to find the culprit. Knowing how older dogs' and their tummy's react to changes, do so gradually. Start with a low mixture food........one with limited ingredients so you can keep tract easily. Then gradually add a new ingredient. You might also try adding a probiotic to their meal. Problem is with dog guts, they are so very acidic it's hard to get stuff through the acid bath into the intestines intact.
I could have made this post myself!!!! Yuki who is also getting up there in age has also been having the worst gas ever. she cannot sit, lay, get up, or move w/o pooofing a ROOM stinker. It's like a little musical chorus at night during every show we watch. I wish I was exaggerating.

BUT.... she's not acting up for allergies which is the first in her life, and the more reading I do... I hear some sort of mucus something gets loose with age, so they fart more.... I'll live with that. It's sooo embarrassing when we have guests over because as I said, it's a constant... but we just say she's old, and everyone just gets a good laugh at the smell
Are you sure it's the dog and NOT the guests? Everybody blames the dog  My first OES, Mandy, from the time she was a pup knew about farting. She would put her nose in the offenders butt and breath deep. At parties with numerous people, my mother and I would watch as Mandy went up behind someone and bury her nose. The person was trying to 'fan away' the smell and the dog. My mom and I would laugh hysterically because we KNEW what happened!! :clappurple: :clappurple:
Just imprinting the person's scent to remember the event and the person. Next time she probably would have followed that person around, waiting. "I remember you, you smelled gooooood."

I really think we need to pass gas masks out to our guests.
