How quickly did you change over? Take at least 7 days to transition between two different foods. No, do not feed Orijen. |
Its been about 5 days i have been mixing it , but yesterday I was out and my brother fed him only orijen, and thats when it got bad. |
Wonder if just too rich for the pup right now. Pull off the food, feed rice only for a day or two to settle tummy and slowly introduce Orijen with rice or try another brand. I'm using Canadae (?) right now, one for senior and other no grain. I switch foods about every 6 months...unless DH forgets what we've been getting and comes up with something else |
Hi We had the same issues with Monty as a puppy on Origen. We had to change to NOW which he had no problems with. I think Origen is a bit to rich for a puppies stomach. We have just changed back to Origen about two weeks ago as Monty is now 2 1/2 and his stomach no longer as issues and he can eat anything. I was really worried after the first week he was back on Origen as he had really soft stools but it has settled down and they are firm again now. I think NOW is a fine dog food but Origen has higher reviews for the content and variety in the dog food that is why we switched back to Origen. You may have to do what we did until his puppy stomach has settled down. |
I had the same issue with Ramsey and Orijen. It was just too rich and too much protein for him. I tried the mixing slowly also, it just never worked for him. By the end of the week I felt so bad for him! He's on Fromm since he was a pup and also my other dog I switched to Fromm, never had a problem with them! |
What kind of Fromm did you feed as a pup? The only reason I am changing his food is because he didnt really like the nutri source i was giving him. He would eat it really slow and didnt even finish it sometimes. I actually had a sample from Fromm and he liked it, but when i went to the local store i didnt see a large breed specific. He is doing a little better, today but the sometimes he has gas. I been giving him really little of the orijen. Is from grain free? |
Large breed puppy from Fromm. Now that he's older, they both get one of the grain frees, I change the flavors every several months. |
It's not uncommon to have troubles with Orijen. It's a good food, but not all dogs do well with the protein levels. Mine do great on Nutrisource - which varieties have you tried? There are many lines now that they produce. Originally years ago they didn't do well, but for the last several years no issues. I rotate foods, so I have bunch of foods my guys use. I also love Fromms. There are manylines in that too - even the basic adult in the purple and silver bag is good. I also use the adult Gold - black bags. Bond and his sisters were raised on the Fromm's large puppy in the teal/aqua colored bags. |
He was getting better, but now he is back to runny poop. I was giving him like 1/4 orijen and the rest nutrisource. I give him the large breed, chicken and rice but he doesn't like i think because he takes forever to eat. and sometimes he wouldn't even finish it. He likes the Orijen but its not agreeing with him. I dont know if i should stop feeding him the Orijen and start with a diffrent food. I had a sample of FROMM and he really like it |
